In 2023, they learned the aphasia was a result of frontotemporal dementia. “I’ve known that something was wrong for a long time. It started out with a kind of vague unresponsiveness, which the family chalked up to Hollywood hearing loss,” his daughter Tallulah Willis wrote in Vogue in 2023. “I find that I’m trying to document, to build a record for the day when he isn’t there to remind me of him and of us.” His second wife, Emma Heming Willis, currently is the actor’s caretaker. Randy Moss, former wide receiver, Hall of Famer and current ESPN pundit for “Sunday NFL Countdown,” is stepping back from the show due to heath issues, according to the network. The hiatus, announced on Friday, comes after an Instagram post by Moss on Sunday asking for prayers. In the video, he said he has been battling “something internal,” and that he has a “great team of doctors.” The star then referred to viewers mentioning his seemingly yellow eyes last week, and put on a pair of sunglasses. “Your boy is going to get through it,” Moss said. “So if you see me with my... glasses on, y’all know what I’m battling,” ESPN said Moss had the network’s “full support’ and that they “look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.” In the Instagram video, Moss, 47, told men to get their check-ups and bloodwork done. “I just ask for all the prayer warriors to put their blessing hands on me and my family through these hard times,” Moss said. The singer originally told fans that she moved to Mexico to escape the “incredibly cruel” paparazzi. “It really kind of hurts my feelings that the paparazzi make my face look like I’m wearing like a white Jason mask, and it doesn’t even look like me,” Spears said on Tuesday. “They’ve always been incredibly cruel to me, the paparazzi and pictures and the way they’ve illustrated me to be in some of it. I know I’m not perfect at all, by any means, but some of it is extremely mean and cruel, and that’s why I’ve moved to Mexico.” The clip was part of a longer video marking Spears’ 43rd birthday on Monday, which was also the day her divorce with Sam Asghari was finalized, according to TMZ . The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit denied TikTok’s appeal to overturn the law. The company argued that it violated the First Amendment. “The First Amendment exists to protect free speech in the United States,” said the court’s opinion, written by Judge Douglas Ginsburg. “Here the Government acted solely to protect that freedom from a foreign adversary nation and to limit that adversary’s ability to gather data on people in the United States.” TikTok and ByteDance are expected to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, though it’s unclear if the Court would hear the case. The ban was signed into law by Joe Biden in April, capping off a years-long fight against the popular app, which lawmakers view as a threat to national security. Two hikers reportedly stumbled upon a woman tied to a tree and crying in Monterey County, California, on Wednesday. According to SF Gate , she was walking a trail in Pebble Beach around 7:30 that morning when she noticed a “suspicious male” behind her, holding a gun. The man did not take anything from her or assault her or injure her, just left her tied up for two hours before the passersby found her. With the help of another hiker, he untied the woman and called the police. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office subsequently launched a search for the suspect, described as being in his 30s with a neck tattoo involving the letter Z. SFGate reports that while authorities haven’t identified anyone matching that description yet, they say there is “no active threat to the community.” Confusing celebrity update: Paris Jackson, daughter of late musician Michael Jackson , is engaged to Justin Long. Not the Justin Long I think you’re thinking of (he’s married to Kate Bosworth) but another Justin Long; the Justin Long who Jackson has been dating for about two years. He works as a music producer, sound engineer, and mixer, according to The Daily Mail , and first appeared on Jackson’s Instagram in Nov. 2022. The next time he showed up on her grid was Friday, in a carousel she posted to celebrate Long’s birthday, which also included photos of the proposal. “Happy birthday, my sweet blue,” she captioned the post, using her nickname for her fiancé. “Doing life with you these last years has been an indescribable whirlwind and I couldn’t dream of anyone more perfect for me to do it all with.” As for when the pair became engaged, Jackson was photographed wearing a big diamond ring during Paris Fashion Week this past September. Consider this the hard launch? The jury in Daniel Penny’s manslaughter case signaled Friday that they’re struggling to reach a verdict on the case. They must decide if Penny “recklessly” caused the death of Jordan Neely by putting him in a six-minute chokehold on the subway in May 2023. Penny’s attorneys argued that the former Marine was justified in putting Neely in a chokehold because witnesses say he told passengers, “Somebody’s going to die today,” and that he was ready to go to jail. Prosecutors argue that no witnesses testified that Neely brandished a weapon or touched anybody, and that Penny kept Neely in the chokehold long after other passengers left the train. The jury has been deliberating since Tuesday. The jury could also convict him of the lesser charge of criminally negligent homicide. If the jury can’t reach a verdict then Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Maxwell Wiley would issue an “Allen” charge, which urges them to reach a unanimous verdict. Penny faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on the manslaughter charge, or up to four years if convicted of a lesser count. Scouted selects products independently. Donald Trump on Friday fired off an unequivocal message of support for his defense secretary pick Pete Hegseth in the wake of several damaging reports about the Fox News star’s alleged behavior. “Pete Hegseth is doing very well. His support is strong and deep, much more so than the Fake News would have you believe,” the president-elect wrote on Truth Social. “He was a great student—Princeton/Harvard educated—with a Military state of mind. He will be a fantastic, high energy, Secretary of Defense Defense, one who leads with charisma and skill. Pete is a WINNER, and there is nothing that can be done to change that!!!” Trump’s post came the morning after Hegseth spent the day meeting with senators whose votes he’ll need to be confirmed as the next Pentagon chief. Speaking to reporters Thursday, Hegseth insisted he’d had a “ great week ”—despite multiple bombshell reports emerging in recent days about his alleged drunken antics, which he denies, along with rumors that Trump is considering replacing him with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as his nominee for defense secretary. “As long as Donald Trump wants me in this fight, I’m going to be standing right here in this fight,” Hegseth said. A top Romanian court alleged Friday that Russia conducted an elaborate TikTok psy op to get a pro-Putin political newcomer elected president. The European Union member state’s Constitutional Court made the unprecedented decision to annul the results after the first round of its election votes, with Sunday’s second round of voting canceled, too. A raft of now-released intelligence reports allege that front-runner Calin Georgescu soared into the lead backed by 25,000 TikTok accounts based in Moscow. The Euro skeptic and anti-NATO Georgescu, who has professed his admiration of Romania’s fascist past, was a relative nobody before the election and was polling at around 5 percent. The U.S. State Department said earlier this week that it was concerned by the Romanian Supreme Council of National Defense’s “report of Russian involvement in malign cyber activity designed to influence the integrity of the Romanian electoral process.”Georgia police fire water cannons at pro-EU protesters

What's Making Us Happy: A guide to your weekend viewingIllinois running back Aidan Laughery The frigid temperatures Saturday afternoon in Chicago — the “feels like” number barely hit double digits — didn’t totally preclude a passing attack. But Illinois was still more productive on the ground, and Laughery was the primary reason for that success. The former Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley standout had, without a doubt, the best game of his career, which has been regularly marred by nagging injuries. Laughery topped 100 rushing yards for the first time and set a new career-best (twice) with a 30-yard touchdown run in the first quarter he managed to follow with a 64-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Offense Illinois: A- Northwestern: C- Luke Altmyer got a little loose with the ball Saturday afternoon. Two interceptions nearly doubled his season total. But the Illinois quarterback bounced back after his first-half mistakes to still contribute in a run-heavy second-half offense with a touchdown pass to Pat Bryant to go with Laughery’s ground game success. Northwestern wound up with more yards of total offense, but four turnovers doomed the Wildcats. Defense Illinois: B Northwestern: C- Remember the first month of the season when Illinois was among the national leaders in takeaways? The frequency of forced turnovers dipped precipitously in October and most of November, but three interceptions and a fumble recovery Saturday helped turn the tide against Northwestern. Giving up 442 yards to the Wildcats wasn’t ideal, but Illinois still wound up bending more than straight up breaking. Special teams Illinois: A Northwestern: B- A cold day coupled with being backed up against his own end zone didn’t help Illinois’ Hugh Robertson with a couple of second-half punts that gave Northwestern tremendous field position. But that was the only real issue. David Olano made his only field goal — by doinking it off the right upright, no less — and the return game was solid behind Hank Beatty and Kenari Wilcher. Northwestern kicker Luke Akers finished 2 of 3 on field goals. Coaching Illinois: B+ Northwestern: D Northwestern coach David Braun’s decision to rotate quarterbacks — giving both Jack Lausch and his backup Ryan Boe — a chance to run the offense Saturday was a baffling choice. Mostly because Boe was clearly not ready (even if Lausch wasn’t exactly a world beater with a significant amount of empty yardage). Both wound up with a pair of turnovers. Illinois didn’t have a perfect performance, of course, but the game plan was solid enough to get the win. Overall Illinois: A- Northwestern: C- Did Saturday’s game get a little closer than expected after it looked like Illinois had things firmly in hand after a pair of early touchdowns in the third quarter? Yeah, it did. But instead of folding in a tense moment, the Illini pushed their lead back to 18 before a late, inconsequential touchdown and two-point conversion by Northwestern. A nine-win regular season was secured, and the Land of Lincoln Trophy was on the bus back to Champaign. Can’t ask for much more.WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump called his meeting with Justin Trudeau productive and says the prime minister made a commitment to work with the United States to end the drug crisis amid the threat of stiff tariffs. “We discussed many important topics that will require both Countries to work together to address, like the Fentanyl and Drug Crisis that has decimated so many lives as a result of Illegal Immigration, Fair Trade Deals that do not jeopardize American Workers, and the massive Trade Deficit the U.S. has with Canada,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social Saturday. Trudeau flew to Florida Friday evening to attend a dinner at Mar-a-Lago, where Trump’s transition team is based. The in-person meeting came at the end of a rocky week in which Trump threatened to impose stiff tariffs on all imports from Canada and Mexico, unless the two countries stop illegal border crossings and prevent illicit drugs from entering the United States. Trump said he and Trudeau discussed the drug crisis and the president-elect made it “very clear that the United States will no longer sit idly by as our Citizens become victims” of the drug epidemic, which he attributed to cartels and fentanyl coming from China. “Prime Minister Trudeau has made a commitment to work with us to end this terrible devastation of U.S. Families,” Trump posted. Trump said the pair also discussed illegal immigration, as well as trade, energy and the Arctic. Trump’s post did not directly mention tariffs and it’s unclear whether the prime minister’s visit has alleviated his concerns about the border. Trudeau, in West Palm Beach Saturday morning, answered a reporter’s question about the dinner, calling it “an excellent conversation.” A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said the two leaders “shared a productive wide-ranging discussion over dinner.” It was centred on collaboration and strengthening the bilateral relationship. “As Canada’s closest friend and ally, the United States is our key partner, and we are committed to working together in the interests of Canadians and Americans,” the statement said. Trudeau had a notably rocky relationship with the Republican leader during the first Trump administration. However, the prime minister was the first G7 leader to visit Trump since the Nov. 5 election. Trump’s tariff threats are critical for Canada. More than 77 per cent of Canadian exports go to the United States. Trudeau said earlier Friday that he would resolve the issue by talking with Trump.

As a country frequently plagued with military interventions, Thailand has many lessons to learn from the recent political upheaval in South Korea, which reveals a case of democracy at work. The world watched with grave concern as South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol made a shock bid late on Tuesday night to suspend civilian rule -- the first time in more than 40 years in the East Asian country's history -- with martial law and eventually breathed a sigh of relief after the cabinet repealed the order six hours after. The president's martial law was nullified by parliament, which voted 109:0 against it. Of course, the people of South Korea and the opposition MPs deserve credit for their hard-won victory. More importantly, the whole incident attests to the fact that South Korea has a strong checks-and-balances mechanism, with a political system that efficiently prevents abuse of power by its leaders, as there is a mechanism for parliamentarians to veto the president's martial law. As the incident develops, every element of society in South Korea, including the military, respects -- and tries to maintain -- the rule of law. Worth mentioning is the professionalism of the South Korean military, who refrained from violence and avoided the use of force when confronting angry crowds. Otherwise, the situation could have been far worse. Now President Yoon has to face the consequences as parliament is set to impeach him today. The victory of the people in South Korea has rekindled hope for politically conscious people in Thailand who are struggling to promote democracy post-coup. So many people who followed the Korean upheaval cannot help but ask: "What if?" The Korean incident sheds new light on the need for Thailand to have a mechanism to counter extraordinary powers, ie, martial law or a coup. Some may argue that South Korea and Thailand have different political cultures. While South Koreans are determined not to compromise, many Thais opt for flexibility despite this equating to a handshake with authoritarianism. Of course, delusions over bad, corrupt politicians and the colour-coded conflicts that preceded the 2006 and 2014 coups may have led some Thais to embrace military interventions, but at the end of the day, Thais have learned time and again that coups are indeed the problem, not the solution. There is no proof that coups did not lead to stagnation for the country. Coup makers are not fit to lead democratic governments. Most of them end up reinforcing patronage and client systems, if not nepotism. They end up no different than the politicians they eked out. Take a look at the current military-sponsored charter, which contains so many clauses that are not well-matched with democratic principles, resulting in an inefficient checks-and-balances system that poses a political time bomb. Despite such flaws, charter amendment is an uphill task. It's a pity that previous attempts of pro-democracy MPs to introduce anti-coup laws that would have provided a tool against military intervention -- like a ban on amnesty for coup makers and the ability for people to bring treason charges against them -- flopped. Yet, it's not too late to rekindle such efforts, together with a public awareness campaign for democratisation. It may be a long time before Thailand can catch up with the East Asian country, but the South Korean incident has set an example. A very good one.Spanish Results
