Shareholder Notice: Robbins LLP Informs Stockholders of the Class Action Against Match Group, Inc.The first-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe was arguably the second-worst thing to come out of the year 2020. It was BMW’s first front-wheel-drive car ever sold in the United States, and everything from its styling to its driving experience was viciously criticized by the press. Fast forward to the present, and we’ve learned how to navigate life with the horrors brought upon us by that wretched year. Now BMW has unveiled the second-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe . Is it going to be the vaccine that cures the ills of the first-generation car, or is it just a new variant? I got to sample the new car very briefly at BMW Test Fest this year , and initial impressions are good. Full Disclosure: BMW flew me out to its facilities in South Carolina for the annual BMW Test Fest event. I sampled upcoming tech and drove several models, but I was only given about five minutes on a closed course in the new 2 Series Gran Coupe. This isn’t a full review or even a first drive story; it’s more of a preview of a first drive. We will let you know as soon as we get more time with it. I drove a 2025 BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupe for five minutes on a closed course at BMW’s test track in South Carolina, and from those five minutes I could tell the new car is a more cohesive vehicle than the first-gen model. When performing a few high-speed lane changes and long fast turns the M235i was stable, solid and responsive. It felt playful, and mercifully it didn’t understeer into oblivion; if anything it was more eager to oversteer. The new interior is slightly more upscale than the outgoing car’s, and it feels more spacious. One of the biggest demerits against the first-gen 2 Series Gran Coupe was its frumpy styling. The new car isn’t what I’d call a looker, but it is an improvement, especially at the rear. The new design better masks the platform’s front-wheel-drive roots, with a slightly lower nose and more flattering body lines that feel more cohesive than before. The silhouette is aided by a more graceful slope to the C-pillar, and an ass-end that looks less like a swollen forehead over awkward creased design elements. Overall it’s more closely related to the rest of the BMW lineup. All new 2 Series Gran Coupes will come standard with an M Sport exterior design package to keep the theme sporty and elevated, where the previous design’s base trim looked more like an economy car than a luxury car. Dimensions remain mostly the same as before, though it’s grown an inch in height and just under an inch in length. Beyond improving the looks, BMW gave most models more power, too. The base 228i now comes with a turbocharged 2-liter Miller cycle inline-4 that produces 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, which is up 13 horses and 37 torques when compared to the first-gen car. The M235i also has a two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but with 312 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, up 11 horsepower and actually down 37 pound-feet of torque versus the previous model. Both engines are mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. BMW claims the 228i now goes from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, 0.2 second faster than before, while the M235i takes the same claimed 4.7 seconds as the outgoing car. Of course the tech quotient is up, with the 2 Series now featuring BMW’s latest curved driver’s display and infotainment screen running the newest version of BMW iDrive. New standard features for all 2 Series Gran Coupe models include a 12-speaker Harmon/Kardon stereo, keyless entry, wireless charging, phone-as-key technology, adaptive suspension, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, a parking assistant, and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist. M235i models get a standard M Sport Brake package that features four-piston front calipers developed for full-fat M models, a package that’s optional on the 228i. Most new 2 Series Gran Coupes will start going on sale in March, though base front-wheel-drive 228i models will arrive a few months later. Prices for that base FWD 228i will start at $40,775 including the $1,175 destination charge. Adding xDrive brings the price up to $42,775, while the top-of-the-line M235i xDrive starts at a pricey $50,675 before options. The second-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is an improvement over the outgoing car, but is it going to light driving enthusiast’s hearts on fire? Not likely. It is a solid entry-level luxury car with a reinvigorated sporty edge, and new looks that do a good job of righting the wrongs of its predecessor. If I was in the market for a new 2 Series Gran Coupe, though, I would much rather buy a used 3 Series if I really needed four doors, or I’d buy a proper rear-wheel-drive 2 Series coupe.

Fox News Flash top sports headlines are here. Check out what's clicking on Foxnews.com. The NFL used to do almost everything possible to avoid Christmas. Now, the league is even scheduling games on Wednesdays to get in on the holiday action. Christmas used to be known as the unofficial start of the NBA season — the season actually starts two months earlier — with classic matchups. Wednesday featured the typical five NBA games throughout the day, while two NFL games kicked off. (Darren Yamashita/Imagn Images) After a Lakers-Warriors thriller Christmas night, LeBron James made a bold claim with NBA ratings declining and the NFL as popular as ever. "I love the NFL, but Christmas is our day," he said. The numbers say otherwise. It should be noted the NBA had a great day by its standards, averaging 5.2 million viewers on Wednesday, its most on the holiday in five years. James' game against Stephen Curry and the Warriors averaged 7.7 million viewers, peaking at 8.3 million. The 10:30 p.m. ET game between the Suns and Nuggets was also the largest late window ever with 3.8 million people watching. James was predictably trolled on social media. NFL games will have been played on five separate days in Week 17 when it's said and done. Thursday, Sunday, and Monday are common game days, and Saturday games are played later in the season. Christmas falls on a Thursday next year, so maybe the NFL will load up similarly to its Thanksgiving tripleheader. Olivia Olson scored 18 points, including eight straight to open the fourth quarter, as the No. 23 Michigan Wolverines survived a 60-54 scare from the Northwestern Wildcats in the Big Ten opener for each team in Ann Arbor, Mich. Northwestern (4-4, 0-1 Big Ten) led throughout the third quarter and took a four-point lead into the fourth, but Olson capped her 8-0 burst with a 3-pointer, and Syla Swords also nailed a trey to put the Wolverines (8-1, 1-0) ahead 50-44. Michigan has won eight straight games since opening the season with a six-point loss to then-No. 1 South Carolina. Caileigh Walsh's 3-pointer put the Wildcats back in front 53-52 with 3:36 to go. Michigan responded by scoring eight of the game's last nine points, six by Jordan Hobbs. Hobbs finished with 16 points and teammate Mila Holloway had 10. Kyla Jones led Northwestern with 14 points and Walsh notched 10 before fouling out. No. 4 Texas 93, James Madison 62 Madison Booker, Jordan Lee and Rori Harmon dominated the first half as the Longhorns clobbered the host Dukes in Harrisonburg, Va. Booker scored 21 points, Lee added 20 and Harmon 19 by combining on 25-of-33 shooting. They had 49 of their points in the first half as Texas (7-1) piled up a 58-29 halftime lead. The Longhorns, who entered seventh in the nation in scoring at 90 points per game, shot 54 percent for the game to 40 percent for the Dukes. Roshala Scott led James Madison (7-3) with 22 points and Peyton McDaniel and Ashanti Barnes had 12 apiece. McDaniel added eight rebounds for the Dukes, who had 24 turnovers. No. 10 Notre Dame 93, Syracuse 62 The Fighting Irish pulled away from a seven-point halftime lead to demolish the host Orange in the ACC opener for both schools. The trio of Sonia Citron, Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles led Notre Dame's win with double-doubles. Citron had 25 points and 11 rebounds, Hidalgo racked up 24 and 10, respectively, and Miles shone with 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Hidalgo, third in Division I in scoring (24.6 ppg), netted nine points and Citron had eight in the third quarter, as Notre Dame (7-2, 1-0 ACC) outscored Syracuse (4-6, 0-1) 29-13 to pull away. Keira Scott posted 16 points and Sophie Burrows tacked on 13 for the Orange, who shot only 32.5 percent. The Irish shot 50 percent and thrived despite 20 turnovers. No. 16 North Carolina 72, Coppin State 46 The Tar Heels built a comfortable halftime lead and used its bench players freely in devouring the Eagles in Chapel Hill, N.C. North Carolina (9-1) entered second-best in the nation in scoring defense at 49.1 points per game and excelled again, holding Coppin State to 27.3 percent shooting. Meanwhile, the Tar Heels shot 44.4 percent while having 12 players enter the scoring column, led by Maria Gakdeng's 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Reniya Kelly scored six of her eight points in the first quarter as North Carolina took a 23-13 lead. The Tar Heels grew the lead to 46-27 by intermission. Tiffany Hammond and Angel Jones scored 12 points apiece for Coppin State (6-5), and Laila Lawrence added 10 points with 10 rebounds. No. 18 Ole Miss 85, Tennessee State 38 The Rebels had more points by halftime than the Lady Tigers scored in the game after jumping out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter and 44-19 by intermission. Kennedy Todd-Williams led Ole Miss (6-3) with 15 points and seven rebounds, and Sira Thienou added 12 and six, respectively. The Rebels shot 46 percent for the game. Ole Miss began the day seventh in the nation in scoring defense at 49.8 points allowed per game, and it punished Tennessee State to the tune of 23.6 percent shooting and 22 forced turnovers. XaiOnna Whitfield led the Lady Tigers (4-6) with 10 points. No. 20 Iowa State 82, Central Michigan 56 Audi Crooks scored 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting and added 10 rebounds as the Cyclones slammed the Chippewas in Ames, Iowa. Emily Ryan netted 10 of her 12 points in the first quarter and Crooks scored nine in the period as Iowa State (8-2) jumped out to a 31-13 lead and enjoyed a cushion of at least 18 points the rest of the way. Addy Brown added 18 points for the Cyclones, who shot 52.5 percent and rolled despite having 20 turnovers. Jayda Mosley led Central Michigan (3-6) with 11 points and Madi Morson and Ayanna-Sarai Darrington added 10 apiece. The Chippewas shot only 33.3 percent from the floor and had 26 turnovers. No. 24 Michigan State 89, DePaul 61 The unbeaten Spartans put four scorers in double figures as they systematically disposed of the Blue Demons in East Lansing, Mich. Jaddan Simmons finished with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Julia Ayrault stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals for Michigan State (9-0). Emma Shumate and Jocelyn Tate had 12 and 10 points, respectively. Jorie Allen put up 15 points, 11 boards, seven assists and three steals and Grace Carstensen also notched 15 points for DePaul (3-7), which shot just 28.8 percent despite hitting 9 of 18 of its 3-point attempts. The Spartans led by seven after one quarter and 17 at halftime before coasting through the second half. No. 25 Nebraska 84, Minnesota 65 Strong first quarters by Callin Hake and Amiah Hargrove sent the Cornhuskers on their way to pinning the first loss on the Golden Gophers in the Big Ten Conference opener for each team. Hake scored eight of her 11 points in the first period and Hargrove eight of her 10 as Nebraska (8-1, 1-0 Big Ten) seized a 27-11 lead and never looked back. Hargrove scored eight of the Cornhuskers' 10 straight points to end the quarter. Alberte Rimdal led the winners with 12 points and Alexis Markowski added 11 with nine rebounds. Mallory Heyer collected 12 points and eight rebounds for Minnesota (10-1, 0-1). Tori McKinney scored 11 points and Grace Crocholski and Alexsia Rose 10 apiece, but the Golden Gophers hit just 35.2 percent of their shots. --Field Level MediaMALAGA, Spain (AP) — No. 1-ranked Jannik Sinner won matches in singles and doubles to lead defending champion Italy to a 2-1 comeback victory over Argentina on Thursday, earning a return trip to the Davis Cup semifinals. “I’m here trying to do the best I can in the singles,” Sinner said. “If they put me on the court in doubles, I’ll also try my best.” On Saturday, Italy will face Australia in a rematch of last year's final, but this time it will only be for a chance to play for the championship. Australia eliminated the U.S. 2-1 earlier Thursday to reach the final four at the team competition for the third consecutive year. The other semifinal, to be contested Friday, is the Netherlands against Germany. The Dutch got past Rafael Nadal and Spain in the quarterfinals earlier in the week, sending the 22-time Grand Slam champion into retirement. Italy fell behind 1-0 in the quarterfinals when Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-1 on an indoor hard court at the Palacio de Deportes Jose Maria Martina Carpena in southern Spain. But then in stepped Sinner, whose season already includes two Grand Slam trophies — at the Australian Open and U.S. Open — plus the title at the ATP Finals last weekend in Turin, Italy. First he overwhelmed Sebastián Báez 6-2, 6-1. Then Sinner teamed with 2021 Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini in the deciding doubles match to win 6-4, 7-5 against Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzalez. “He carried me today,” Sinner said about Berrettini. After arriving late to Malaga from Turin, Sinner did not get a chance to practice on the Davis Cup competition court before taking on Báez and stretching his streak to 22 sets won in a row. “In three minutes, he was perfectly comfortable on court,” Italy captain Filippo Volandri said. “He’s a special one.” Volandri swapped out his original doubles team, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, for Sinner and Berrettini, and the change paid dividends. Australia, the Davis Cup runner-up the last two years, advanced when Matt Ebden and Jordan Thompson beat the surprise, last-minute American pairing of Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-4 in that quarterfinal's deciding doubles match. The Shelton-Paul substitution for Paris Olympics silver medalists Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram was announced about 15 minutes before the doubles match began. Ebden and John Peers beat Krajicek and Ram in the Summer Games final in August. The Australians broke once in each set of the doubles. In the second, they stole one of Shelton’s service games on the fourth break opportunity when Ebden’s overhead smash made it 5-4. Thompson then served out the victory, closing it with a service winner before chest-bumping Ebden. The 21st-ranked Shelton made his Davis Cup debut earlier Thursday in singles against 77th-ranked Thanasi Kokkinakis, who emerged from a tight-as-can-be tiebreaker by saving four match points and eventually converting his seventh to win 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (14). No. 4 Taylor Fritz , the U.S. Open runner-up, then pulled the Americans even with a far more straightforward victory over No. 9 Alex de Minaur , 6-3, 6-4. When their match finally ended, on a backhand by Shelton that landed long, Kokkinakis dropped onto his back and pounded his chest. After he rose, he threw a ball into the stands, then walked over to Australia’s sideline, spiked his racket and yelled, before hugging captain Lleyton Hewitt. “I don’t know if I’ve been that pumped up in my life. I wanted that for my team,” said Kokkinakis, who won the 2022 Australian Open men’s doubles title with Nick Kyrgios. “It could have gone either way, but I kept my nerve.” AP tennis: https://apnews.com/hub/tennis

For almost three years, the Russian civil aviation industry has been largely cut off from the outside world, and now it appears to be warping backward in time. Historians are often quick to point out that not all technological change over time is more sophisticated and advanced - sometimes it goes backward. The same may be said for the current trajectory of Russian commercial aircraft. This appears to be driven by at least four factors - putting obsolete Soviet aircraft back into production, substituting Western parts for less-able Russian parts , bringing previously retired airframes back into service, and retiring the newest Airbus and Boeing jets Russia has first. Russia's stated goal of producing around 1,000 passenger aircraft by 2030 is looking evermore like a flight of fancy . Almost three years into that timeline and no passenger jets have been delivered or appear set to be delivered. All modern passenger jets are built with Western parts Quite simply, no country in the world can produce a modern passenger jet without Western components. This is partly why Russia can't purchase the Chinese COMAC C919 or any Brazilian Embraer aircraft . Look at the engines, flight control systems, and avionics of any modern airliner, and one will find many of the components are provided by Western companies like Safran, GE, Honeywell, Pratt & Whitney, Collins, Rolls-Royce, and others. Russia's post-sanctions passenger aircraft production: Ilyushin Il-96-400M: 1 (Used for testing) Ilyushing Il-114: 1 (Used for testing) Sukhoi Superjet: 7 (built with pre-sanction stocks) Tu-204/2014: 0 Yakolev MC-21: 0 Production target (2022-2024): 108 (of all types) Even though China and Brazil do not participate in Western-led sanctions on Russia, they are in little position to help Russia in the commercial aviation sector. Perhaps warningly for China, the US may already be close to sanctioning COMAC which could shut the production of the C919 down almost overnight. The sad tale of the Superjet and MC-21 As 2022 rolled around the Superjet was in production and being adopted by airlines across Russia. It was even getting some interest on the export market. The Yakolev MC-21 was also about to go into production and there were high hopes for Russia's commercial aircraft. Then Russia began its "special military operation" that attracted Western sanctions and brought these programs to an end essentially overnight. Other than seven Superjets completed with parts in store before the sanctions, no passenger jets have been produced - none (excluding a single Il-90-400M and Il-114 - both used for testing). The Superjet was meant to resume deliveries in 2024. Instead, Russia has fired the heads of the departments for the "failure of the civil aviation program." It is unclear when Russia will be able to resume deliveries of the Russified aircraft. Example % of foreign parts on Russian passenger jets: Sukhoi Superjet: 80% Yakolev MC-21: 60% Tupolev Tu-214: 13% (Soviet-era aircraft) According to the BBC, the once-touted domestic Russian Sukhoi Superjet was made up of around 80% foreign parts. Meanwhile, the Yakolev MC-21 (a Boeing 737 challenger) has around 60% foreign parts. Most of these parts are from European and US companies. However, while Russia is trying to substitute imported components with domestic components, the end result is hardly the same aircraft. For example, the Russian MC-21 is expected to be six tons heavy, slower, and underpowered. While the C919 airframe is Chinese-built, the engines and much of its avionics and flight control systems are Western-built. Producing older variants of obsolete aircraft Russia is considering restarting production of its Soviet-era passenger jets. Although Russia may possess the legacy of the Soviet Union, it does not possess the engineers and industrial power of the Soviet Union. The two Soviet-era passenger aircraft Russia wants to put back into production are the Ilyushin Il-96 and the Tu-204. These Soviet aircraft were out-competed by Western aircraft 30 years ago—let alone today. There is a reason why the only countries still operating Soviet-era commercial passenger jets are countries with no choice (like North Korea and Cuba). The older Ilyushin Il-96 The Ilyushin Il-96 is a four-engined long-haul widebody airliner that first flew in 1988 (only around 32 of the aircraft have been produced). The aircraft is powered by four Aviadvigatel PS-90 two-shaft turbofan engines (it is used as the main Russian presidential aircraft - the Russian answer to Air Force One). The only remaining commercial passenger operator of the type is Cuba's flag carrier, Cubana de Aviación . The Ilyushin Il-96-400 is the aircraft's more modern version ( it comes with updated avionics and a crew of two). However, according to the BBC , Russia is considering the older Il-96-300 version, the initial Soviet version, to be the more likely candidate to be placed back into production . Tupolev Tu-204/Tu-214 The other Soviet-era passenger jet that Russia is looking to dust off is the Tupolev Tu-204 (broadly the counterpart to the Boeing 757). This is a twin-engined medium-range narrow-body aircraft (able to carry around 210 passengers). The Tu-204 first flew in 1989 but was already considered obsolete in the 2000s. Like the older Il-96, the Tu-214 has a crew of three and a very low level of automation (meaning that everything needs to be done manually). The pilots need to track things like making sure the right wing used the same amount of fuel as the left wing. To fly these aircraft, Russia will need to reopen a school to train pilots how to operate these antiquated systems (Russia doesn't even have these schools anymore). “There is such low automation that everything has to be done manually, all these switches, buttons to switch and monitor everything so that the right wing produces the same amount of fuel as the left wing, so that there is no imbalance. That is, you need a separate person. Given that we don’t train them anymore, we don’t even have schools where these people would be trained.” - Russian aircraft engineer quoted by BBC However, the Tu-204/214 does have a more modern variant - the Tu-204SM (it comes with updated equipment, is lighter, can fly longer distances, and has a crew of two). However, "updated" is often another way of saying that Russia put Western components into its old aircraft. That is why Russia wants to put the older variant back into production. Even so, its simplicity and comparative lack of imported parts (around 13%) does not mean it is easy for Russia to restart production. The BBC stated none of the experts they talked to dared to suggest when it could be placed back into production (or, indeed, if it would happen at all). Another issue is that the Aviaster plant where it was once produced is now busy building the Ilyushin Il-76 strategic airlifter for the Russian military. Herein lies yet another issue. Russian civil aviation is competing with military aviation for limited resources at a time when Russia is in its largest conflict since WWII. Unable to buy new passenger jets internationally, Russia is forced to build its own domestic jets and keep its existing fleet in service for longer. Bringing Boeing 747s back into service Russia is also trying to bring some retired aircraft back into service. The Aeroflot CEO Sergei Aleksandrovsky announced in September that it plans to once again start flying Boeing 747-400 Jumbo jets in 2025 (these are to fly with Aeroflot's subsidiary, Rossiya). On 3rd December 2024, Aeroroutes reported , " Aeroflot Russian Airlines since November 2024 added Boeing 747-400 aircraft service, operated by Rossiya Airlines. Since 08NOV24, the 747-400 has been scheduled on Moscow Sheremetyevo – Sochi route on Sundays " Russian passenger aircraft: Foreign aircraft in Russia: 738 in 2022 Forecast foreign aircraft in Russia: 319 by 2030 Planned Russian production of aircraft by 2030: 1,000 Delivered Russian aircraft 2022-2024: 0 (apart from 7 Superjets completed with parts on hand) Planned annual production: 140-270 Realistic annual production: 50-60 (per Kommersant ) These Boeing 747s were retired because of their low efficiency (in 2023, Aeroflot had eight of them). It is unknown what condition they are in and how many Aeroflot will be able to restore. It is also unclear if Russia will try to bring any other previously retired aircraft back into service. Retiring the newest aircraft first At first, it may seem counter-intuitive, but Russia is retiring many of its newest Airbus and Boeing aircraft first. In November 2024, the Russian news outlet, Kommersant reported that half of Russia's fleets of Airbus A321neo and A320neo fleets have been grounded . Half of the grounded aircraft are grounded to preserve their remaining engine lives, while the remaining grounded aircraft are not expected to fly again. The issue for Russia is maintaining its new and complex CFM International LEAP engines produced by General Electric and Safran. Another problematic aircraft type for Russia is the Airbus A350 . There are normally ways to break sanctions, but this is much easier for older, widely used aircraft (there may be plenty of places to shop for Boeing 737 parts). However, the same is not true of new long-range aircraft like the A350 which still only exists in small numbers (and few airframes are likely being striped for parts worldwide). This enables the movement of spare parts to be controlled much more easily and enforce sanctions. That is why Russia is doing a better job maintaining other long-haul aircraft that have been in production for some time (like the A330 and Boeing 777). It is just easier to find spare parts for these aircraft.I haven’t written you for a while, so I wanted to provide a couple of updates here in a November column and also one in December. As colder air settles in and the aroma of turkey and dressing fills homes across Pulaski County, we gather once again to celebrate Thanksgiving. It’s a day steeped in tradition, connection, and gratitude. In our fast-paced lives, it’s easy to let moments of reflection slip through the cracks. Thanksgiving serves as a gentle reminder to pause, take stock, and appreciate what we have. And what we have isn’t solely measured by the feasts on our tables or the comforts we enjoy but also by our families, the challenges that shape us, and the small joys that keep us going. This year, gratitude for me means giving thanks for the team that I have here in Pulaski County Government. Earlier this year, I had the chance to speak with the Somerset Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce about the state of the county. We’ve had a lot of challenges these past two years, but I feel that we are headed in the right direction. A big reason for that is my team. All of our departments do a great job of moving Pulaski County forward. Our Finance Department, in the past almost two years, has reduced county debt by over four million dollars. We have cut in half the number of findings on our audits and are currently eliminating more for the next audit. We have done all this while giving employees raises with each budget cycle. We’ve done this by cutting excessive spending and increasing accountability. I think we are accountable to our taxpayers and that’s how I look at local government spending. Part of that accountability comes from having members of my own staff and the majority of the county workforce clocking in and showing that they are here and on time doing the work that our taxpayers expect us to do. Our H.R. Director has done an incredible job streamlining the payroll process and has instituted a new safety policy. She has also helped us become a Certified Drug Free workplace. We want them drug free because of the nature of the work that our departments do. Look at the Pulaski County Road Department. As the third largest county in Kentucky, we have almost 1200 miles of road. It is a must that we have one of the best road crews in the state. Almost all county road work is done in-house. We only hire outside contractors for paving. This saves Pulaski County hundreds of thousands of dollars, including our latest project at Campground Road. With a half million-dollar state funding grant, we now have two-and-a-half miles of new pavement, twenty-two feet wide, rights-of-way cleared, and improved ditch lines. And we are in the process of studying other possible roads to work on next. These are just a few of the aspects of my team I’m thankful for in my job as Pulaski County Judge Executive. My December column will focus on more of that as we close out our full second year in office and focus on what our goals are in the upcoming year. As you sit down to enjoy a meal with your family and friends this holiday season, take a moment to go around the table and share what you are thankful for too. These reflections have a way of deepening our connections and reminding us of what truly matters. Thanksgiving may be one day, but the practice of gratitude can carry us through every season. So, as we savor the pumpkin pie and gather together, let’s commit to a gratitude that lingers long after the holiday is over. As always, feel free to reach out to me or my staff if you have any concerns in the county. Our office stays open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. And you can call us at (606)678-4853. God Bless you all and God Bless Pulaski County.Next Week in Business: jobless claims, mortgage rates and Wall Street's first trading day of 2025

5 Fresh Altcoins That Could Turn Altcoin Season Into a Gold Rush – Analyst Highlights a New Solana MemecoinUK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has welcomed the fall of Bashar al-Assad's "barbaric regime" in Syria, as he called for the restoration of "peace and stability". The ousted Syrian president - who Russian state media report is in Moscow having been granted asylum by Russia - fled the country after his government fell to a lightning rebel offensive early on Sunday. Sir Keir said the Syrian people "had to put up with [Assad's] brutal regime for far, far too long". When asked if the government would engage with rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), set up as an affiliate of al-Qaeda and proscribed as a terrorist group by the UK, he said it was "early days" but that there needed to be a "political solution". "The developments in Syria in recent hours and days are unprecedented, and we are speaking to our partners in the region and monitoring the situation closely," Sir Keir said on Sunday, shortly after arriving in the United Arab Emirates for a visit unrelated to events in Syria. "The Syrian people have suffered under Assad's barbaric regime for too long and we welcome his departure. "Our focus is now on ensuring a political solution prevails, and peace and stability is restored." He also called on "all sides" to protect civilians and minorities, and "ensure essential aid can reach the most vulnerable" in the coming hours and days. Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel said : "Our first priority must be the Syrian people. Syrians need to be protected – all communities and groups." Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey described Assad as "a vile dictator who used chemical weapons against him own people" in a post on X . He added the UK must "do what we can to ensure the protection of minority groups and ultimately an orderly transition of power with free and fair elections". Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner earlier told the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme that the UK wanted to see "a political solution along the lines of UN resolution, and we're working with our allies". Asked if HTS would be better than Assad, Rayner said "we've got to have a government in Syria, a political solution, that protests civilians and infrastructure". The Islamist group, set up 13 years ago as a direct affiliate of al-Qaeda, drove the rebels' rise to power in Syria in recent weeks. It previously publicly broke ranks with al-Qaeda, although it remains proscribed as a terrorist group by the UK, as well as the UN, the US, Turkey and other countries. Questions remain over whether it has completely renounced those links, but its message in the run-up to Assad's deposition has been one of inclusiveness and a rejection of violence. Former head of MI6 Sir John Sawers told Sky News: "I think Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani, the leader, has made great efforts over the last 10 years to distance himself from those terrorist groups and certainly the actions we've seen of [HTS] over the last two weeks has been those of a liberation movement, not of a terrorist organisation." He added: "It would be rather ridiculous, actually, if we're unable to engage with the new leadership in Syria because of a proscription dating back 12 years." The prime minister's pre-planned visits to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia for meetings on Monday are unrelated to events in Syria. The government said Sir Keir is pursuing closer ties with the two countries to increase investment, deepen defence and security ties, and drive growth and new opportunities to benefit working people. The UK government had been evacuating its citizens from Syria over the weekend before the fall of Damascus overnight. On Sunday, hundreds of Syrians in Manchester celebrated Assad's demise by singing, dancing and crying in the city centre, while dozens of people also gathered in Belfast to celebrate the end of his regime .

It is just easier to find spare parts for these aircraft.Published 01:48 IST, December 28th 2024 BJP leader Parvesh Verma claimed that AAP supremo and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal may change his seat from the New Delhi constituency elections New Delhi: BJP leader and former West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma has claimed that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief, may change his constituency from the New Delhi seat in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Parvesh Verma suggested that Kejriwal may not contest from the New Delhi seat, where he has been the MLA since 2013. Kejriwal was the AAP candidate for the New Delhi constituency in the last three elections and has been announced as the party's candidate to contest the seat for the fourth term. However, Verma’s statement has raised questions about Kejriwal’s political plans for the upcoming polls. AAP Has Not Responded To The Claims So Far Verma, the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, also mentioned that the national leadership of the BJP has asked him to prepare to contest from the New Delhi constituency in the upcoming elections. So far, the AAP has not responded to Verma’s claims. The development has sparked interest in the political scene, with many waiting for Kejriwal's official announcement regarding his plans for the upcoming elections. In a post on X, Parvesh Verma said, “Sources have told me that Arvind Kejriwal may change his seat. I just want to ask Kejriwal ji to please do not run away from the New Delhi Assembly seat. Contest the polls with democratic dignity.” Kejriwal on Thursday slammed Verma for distributing Rs 1,100 to women in New Delhi, saying his father would have been ashamed of him for a "traitor" son like him. The AAP has also filed a complaint against Verma with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), alleging that cash was being distributed in Kejriwal's constituency ahead of polls. The party has demanded that the agency register a case of money laundering against Verma. Verma has maintained that the money was given to women by the social organisation Rashtriya Swabhiman, founded by his father Sahib Singh Verma. He said he would continue to help the needy women till a model code of conduct is imposed for the polls. The elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly are due to be held in February. The Congress has fielded Sandeep Dikshit, son of former three-time Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, from New Delhi. Heirlooms Jewelry at 36 Main Street in downtown Stockbridge, will be under new management starting Jan. 1 as long time owners Robin Fleet and Phil Coleman, are retiring. New owners Ella and Shaun Hall are planning to continue a 54 year tradition of local ownership. STOCKBRIDGE — Since 1970, Heirlooms Jewelry — a shop tucked into the back of The Mews at 36 Main Street, near Once Upon a Table — has maintained a robust presence within the compact downtown business center. That presence will continue in 2025, with new owners. After 25 years of co-proprietorship, Philip Coleman and his wife and shop owner Robin Fleet are retiring at the close of business at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Without skipping a beat, Stockbridge native and current Lee resident Shaun Hall and his wife Ella, the new owners, will be opening the doors around 11 a.m. on New Year’s Day, with the intent of being open year-round, seven days a week. Heirlooms Jewelry in Stockbridge, established in 1970, is the second oldest business downtown. It will be under new ownership as of Jan. 1 as co-proprietors Robin Fleet and Phil Coleman, at left, are retiring and moving to a condo in a French chateau. At right, new owners Shaun and Ella Hall are planning to keep the store as is. During a recent conversation on a busy day inside the brightly-lit store, the foursome made it clear that very little will change following a smooth transition. Heirlooms counts on repeat visits by longtime steady customers, said Coleman. “It’s a business that people love,” he said. “This has been our best years.” Why sell it now? Coleman and Fleet are retiring to a condo they’ve purchased at a chateau in the Loire Valley of central France — where they had been frequent visitors for 50 years. “It’s a lovely spot,” said Coleman after acknowledging that leaving the store and the Lenox home they recently sold would be bittersweet. He had been ready to retire several years ago, but Fleet was not. “This store has been like a second child,” she explained. What did it take to persuade her? “He found the chateau!” she exclaimed. “We’ve met thousands of people from all over the world,” Coleman pointed out. “We’re going to miss the people and the good times with literally thousands of frequent customers who love the store and feel like they’re dealing with regular people. It’s a cool, fun place.” He said the store completes more than 5,000 sales annually, with tens of thousands of customers passing through. Heirlooms Jewelry in Stockbridge has had a 54 year tradition of local ownership. Specializing in antique and estate jewelry from the Victorian era to the present. Philip Coleman and Robin Fleet, co-proprietors for a total of 25 years, are retiring, having sold the business tp Shaun and Ella Hall of Lee. Fleet recalled one of her favorite moments, when a customer gifted a $250 piece of jewelry to a total stranger who had been looking it over but deemed it unaffordable. “I’m doing it because I can,” said the customer. “It was just a complete gift,” Fleet recalled. The business, originally called Folklorica, was started by Ellen Kenwood, taking over a space first occupied by fashion designer Nicole Miller . In 1980, Minna Zaret, the second owner, bought it, renaming it Heirlooms Jewelry. Befitting its name, the store always has specialized in antique and estate jewelry — “anything that’s technically not new,” Coleman explained. The stock is acquired from wholesale jewelry dealers, local estates, trade shows and events such as the Brimfield antique show. Coleman, a Philadelphia native, met Fleet, who grew up in Jacksonville, Fla., in first grade after his family moved there. They’ve known each other for 64 years and have been married for 40, moving to the Berkshires to raise their daughter. Fleet, stopping at Heirlooms to look for a ring, returned a week later, encountered a sign for a “closing” sale and bought business from Zaret in October 1995, paying about $130,000 for the value of the business and the inventory. Last summer, the Halls had considered buying it, Shaun explained, but it didn’t work out. On the day after this past Thanksgiving, with some revisions, the deal was consummated. With 75 percent of the store's inventory sold since last January, the price of the business transaction was $50,000, said Coleman. The building is owned by a subsidiary of William Gottlieb Management, LLC. Shaun Hall, born and raised in Lee but with deep family roots in Stockbridge, noted that his father and grandfather were models for Norman Rockwell . “We are very happy to be part of the community,” he said. A year ago, just a pebble’s throw from Heirlooms, Hall purchased 7 Arts Music, a record store specializing in vinyl, including half of his personal collection of 30,000 discs, which includes CDs and some vintage 45s and 78s. Customers call it “a walk down memory lane,” he said, with albums including '60s and '70s rock as well as classical and jazz. His wife Ella is a native of Armenia whom he met while in the Peace Corps teaching English from 1998 to 2000 in Armenia. Ella was among his students prior to their marriage. They’ve been raising four daughters in Lee, now ranging in age from 16 to 22. Ella, who teaches seventh grade English Language Arts at Lee Middle and High Schoo l, will keep that job despite her new role as co-proprietor of Heirlooms. The Halls have been apprenticing with Coleman and Fleet, learning how to run the business. “It will be a juggling act,” Ella conceded, “but I’m a hard worker and these are my passions — teaching and being surrounded by jewelry.” Her husband, who will keep his part-time job at St. Mary’s School in Lee , and their oldest daughters, Liana and Ariana, will take their turns running the store. Heirlooms Jewelry will continue to be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 11 to 8 Fridays through Sundays. A revamped website, heirloomsjewelry.com, will be online soon, complementing the store's Facebook page. “We have a lot to grasp and learn,” Ella said. “Eventually, I’d love to bring in jewelry from around the world.” Coleman and Fleet will be available for consultation even after they’re ensconced in the French chateau. “I have his number,” said Shaun, though he’ll bear the six-hour time difference in mind. “We’ll keep everything here exactly the same, the service and everything customers are used to,” he said. “This store has been a part of Stockbridge history for a very long time.” Heirlooms Jewelry is the second-oldest business in Stockbridge. Williams & Sons Country Store holds pride of place as the first, established about 60 years ago. “We’re keeping the legacy,” Ella said. “We wish Robin and Phil the best of luck, and we’re really thankful to them for their guidance and support.”WASHINGTON — The United States is expected to announce that it will send $1.25 billion in military assistance to Ukraine, U.S. officials said Friday, as the Biden administration pushes to get as much aid to Kyiv as possible before leaving office on Jan. 20. The large package of aid includes a significant amount of munitions, including for the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems and the HAWK air defense system. It also will provide Stinger missiles and 155 mm- and 105 mm artillery rounds, officials said. The officials, who said they expect the announcement to be made on Monday, spoke on condition of anonymity to provide details not yet made public. The new aid comes as Russia has launched a barrage of attacks against Ukraine’s power facilities in recent days, although Ukraine has said it intercepted a significant number of the missiles and drones. Russian and Ukrainian forces are also still in a bitter battle around the Russian border region of Kursk, where Moscow has sent thousands of North Korean troops to help reclaim territory taken by Ukraine. Earlier this month, senior defense officials acknowledged that that the Defense Department may not be able to send all of the remaining $5.6 billion in Pentagon weapons and equipment stocks passed by Congress for Ukraine before President-elect Donald Trump is sworn in. Trump has talked about getting some type of negotiated settlement between Ukraine and Russia, and spoken about his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Many U.S. and European leaders are concerned that it might result in a poor deal for Ukraine and they worry that he won’t provide Ukraine with all the weapons funding approved by Congress. The aid in the new package is in presidential drawdown authority, which allows the Pentagon to take weapons off the shelves and send them quickly to Ukraine. This latest assistance would reduce the remaining amount to about $4.35 billion. Officials have said they hope that an influx of aid will help strengthen Ukraine’s hand, should Zelenskyy decide it’s time to negotiate. One senior defense official said that while the U.S. will continue to provide weapons to Ukraine until Jan. 20, there may well be funds remaining that will be available for the incoming Trump administration to spend. According to the Pentagon, there is also about $1.2 billion remaining in longer-term funding through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which is used to pay for weapons contracts that would not be delivered for a year or more. Officials have said the administration anticipates releasing all of that money before the end of the calendar year. If the new package is included, the U.S. has provided more than $64 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since Russia invaded in February 2022.A third Victorian Liberal has put their hand up for the party’s leadership just hours before Friday morning’s showdown. Mornington MP Chris Crewther emailed his colleagues at 12.47am to announce his candidacy for Liberal leader in the event of a successful spill motion against Opposition Leader John Pesutto. And we must have each other’s backs at all times. We must care for each other, as we’d care for Victorians in government. “Thank you for your consideration of my candidacy as we look to a better future for Victoria.” Crewther is the former federal MP for Dunkley in Melbourne’s outer southeast, which he lost at the 2019 election after just one term. The development comes after former police officer and bakery owner Brad Battin phoned Pesutto on Thursday to confirm he would challenge his leadership at Friday’s party room meeting, where a vote on readmitting exiled MP Moira Deeming is also expected to be held. Finance spokeswoman Jess Wilson also threw her hat into the ring, saying she wanted to offer her colleagues a choice should Pesutto be toppled. Wilson is from the party’s moderate wing, while Battin has allied himself with key conservatives. Crewther is also considered an ally of conservative MPs. A moderate Liberal, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss party matters, suggested that Battin would be unhappy with Crewther’s 11th-hour candidacy. “It’s now clear that Brad Battin’s backers are divided,” the source said. “Jess Wilson remains the only leadership candidate that can lead a united team.” John Pesutto (centre) is set to face two challengers in Friday’s leadership vote: Jess Wilson and Brad Battin. Credit: The party room meeting is scheduled for 10am. If the party room votes in favour of a spill, Pesutto is expected to stand down as leader. An email from Pesutto to the party on Tuesday informing his colleagues he would allow members to vote remotely prompted speculation that absent MPs Nick McGowan and Cindy McLeish, who are overseas on holidays, would provide crucial votes to prevent the spill or vote for Wilson in the event of a successful motion. That email drew the ire of former Pesutto ally and Brighton MP James Newbury, who publicly accused the opposition leader of breaching the party’s constitution, triggering an intervention from state Liberal director Stuart Smith. Smith’s intervention will mean three votes will be put to the party room on Friday: whether the absent MPs can vote remotely; if exiled MP Moira Deeming should be readmitted to the party room; and a challenge to the leadership. If Deeming is readmitted to the party, there is nothing to stop her from entering the meeting and casting her vote on the leadership challenge.
