Are Wall Street Analysts Bullish on Equifax Stock?ASHLEY Cain has been lambasted for being too flash as he "showed off" his huge new car and house on social media. Former footballer and reality TV star Ashley , who appeared on Ex on The Beach and the Challenge as well as Celebrity SAS, is worth an estimated £3 million. He posted a photo of himself beside a new luxury car, saying: "Christmas Eve with sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and cousins... A night filled with smiles, so much love, and even a few tears. And in the quietest moments, a special cuddle from heaven. "+ a sauna, an ice bath, a haircut, and an early present from me to me - because who doesn’t need a practical family wagon. Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas - God bless!" But many took to Instagram to leave negative comments. One fumed: "He loves himself, his car, his house and his kids ... in that order." Another Instagram user seethed: "Wtf your house and car got to.do with Christmas eve. Seriously!!!! "You see, he made sure he took a picture of his big house and the car." Another lamented, "Ashley, I have followed you because of your unwavering support for children's causes, to grieve alongside you and to cheer you on as you continue to speak about Azaylia's legacy, and now your little boys, but your material possessions, A.K.A. your car and house, are irrelevant to your post. I get it; you're proud of your car, but dude, be for real. You can enjoy the good things you have without being THAT guy." A third added: " Social media is just a place to show off these days. Why can’t or why don’t people want to keep their life personal. It’s so embarrassing! The car, the house, even the bag had to be put on his back for the pics! Cringe." Ashley has raised thousands in memory of his baby daughter Azaylia, who died from a rare form of leukaemia . He also set up Azaylia Foundation's Childhood Cancer PhD Scholarship Programme. Since Azaylia's death, Ashley has gone on to have more children, Atlas and Aliyas, who are pictured in the photos he posted. Some social media users commented on why Ashley had not posted any graveside photos this year, as he has done in previous years. One Instagram user commented: "Why is there no pictures him at Azaliyas resting place?" Another said: "Not one pic of him at his daughter's resting place like before now he has his boys to worried about showing them off house and cars his daughter like to have saf as his mother so glad she had no more kids with him she’s far to good for him rip sweet angel." After all the negative comments, fans showed some support and wished him a happy Christmas: One fan said: "Please ignore all the negative comments, enjoy your time with family." A second said: "Your love for your children is EVERYTHING! Merry Christmas to you all." Another said: "Wishing you and your beautiful family a very Merry Christmas and a special Christmas prayer for Azaliya in Heaven may she forever watch over her family."

The new primary-care compensation model (PCCM) will move away from the current fee-for-service model and aims to incentivize physicians with several fee increases by maintaining a high panel of patients and providing after-hour care. Health Minister Adriana LaGrange said in an interview with Postmedia Wednesday that to get the program up and running, the province in partnership with the Alberta Medical Association (AMA), will start taking applications and names of doctors who are interested in January. There needs to be a minimum of 500 doctors for the program to be viable. If it takes off, LaGrange anticipates payments will start in April. “We want to make sure if we’re investing heavily in doctors, which we believe in, and we know will make a positive difference, then we want to make sure that we have the commitment from the doctors themselves,” LaGrange said. The province will be committing $150 million in 2025 and approximately $250 million in the following years. Additional incentives include increases for improving technology, enhancing team-based care, and adding efficiencies in clinical operations. Under the new model, family physicians who are not compensated through the traditional fee-for-service model will now receive higher pay rates under their payment model — through the alternative relationship plan (ARP). “This includes those who provide inpatient care in hospitals and rural generalists. Alberta’s government is increasing this to ensure hospital-based family physicians and rural generalists also receive fair, competitive pay that reflects the importance of these roles,” said the province in a Thursday news release. LaGrange said the new compensation model will help retain doctors by making them the “strongest paid” in Canada while attracting more physicians to the province. ‘A positive step’: NDP Alberta NDP Health critic Sarah Hoffman said in an interview with Postmedia after word of the agreement broke Thursday morning , that the new compensation model was “good news and a positive step,” however, she added it would have been better if they’d signed the deal six months ago before the province lost more doctors. “We know that there are almost a million Albertans without a family doctor. We can’t afford to lose anymore and we need to make sure that we can retain the ones we have, show them respect, and recruit new ones,” Hoffman said. “Reaching this agreement I think will help on that front but we need to actually work expeditiously.” More to come. ctran@postmedia.com X: @kccindytran Bookmark our website and support our journalism: Don’t miss the news you need to know — add EdmontonJournal.com and EdmontonSun.com to your bookmarks and sign up for our newsletters here. CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Jordan Roberts scored 19 points as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beat Schreiner 103-44 on Sunday. Roberts went 7 of 11 from the field (3 for 4 from 3-point range) for the Islanders (8-6). Dian Wright-Forde scored 14 points while shooting 4 of 7 from the field and 6 for 8 from the line and added three steals. Sheldon Williams shot 5 of 6 from the field and 3 of 6 from the free-throw line to finish with 13 points. The Mountaineers were led by Beau Cervantes, who recorded nine points. Kamden Ross added seven points and three blocks. The Associated Press created this story using technology provided by Data Skrive and data from Sportradar .
With more than half of the 16 teams still mathematically alive to make the conference championship game, the Big 12 will command a lot of attention in the final week of the regular season. No. 14 Arizona State and No. 17 Iowa State would play for the Big 12 title and likely College Football Playoff spot on Dec. 7 if they both win Saturday and there's a four-way tie for first place. There are seven other teams that begin this week with hopes, slim in most cases, of getting into the game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Last week it was No. 19 BYU and No. 23 Colorado that had the inside track to the championship game. Arizona State beat the Cougars and Kansas knocked off the Buffaloes, and here we are. "Everybody counted us out, I think, two weeks ago," Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said after his team beat Utah 31-28. "We didn't flinch. We didn't waver. And we just keep fighting." The Cyclones were national darlings the first half of the season as they won seven straight games to match the best start in program history. Back-to-back losses to Texas Tech and Kansas followed. Now they've won two straight heading into "Farmageddon," their rivalry game against Kansas State at home. "Right now they've got the pen and they continue to write the story," Campbell said of his players, "and I hope they will continue to write it the way they've got the ability to write it. Unwavering. Tough, mentally tough, physically tough. This group has stood for it every step of the way." Arizona State has been an even better story than the Cyclones. The Sun Devils have six more wins than they did last season, when they went 3-9. They were picked to finish last in their first year in the Big 12. They'll go for their fifth straight victory when they play at Arizona on Saturday. "These guys came off no momentum and everybody doubting them, and everybody is still doubting them. That's what makes this special," second-year coach Kenny Dillingham said. "Hopefully the expectations become higher. I don't know if there's a way we can exceed expectations more than we're exceeding them right now." Checking in on five of the Top 25: The Ducks were idle Saturday after clinching a spot in the Big Ten championship game with their win at Wisconsin on Nov. 16. Oregon can go 12-0 in the regular season for the first time since 2010 if it beats Washington at home this week. Oregon's only two losses last season came against the Huskies, both decided by three points. The first was a top-10 matchup in the regular season and the second was a top-five matchup in the Pac-12 championship game. The Ducks are 19 1/2-point favorites this time, according to BetMGM Sportsbook. The Buckeyes' showdown with upstart Indiana combined with Michigan's dropoff after winning the national championship have lowered the volume on this week's meeting with the Wolverines at the Horseshoe. If Michigan beats Ohio State a fourth straight time and it keeps the Buckeyes out of the Big Ten championship game and playoff ... well, there'll be lots of noise in Columbus then. The Lone Star Showdown returns to the gridiron for the first time since 2011, when Texas and Texas A&M were in the Big 12. The Longhorns head to No. 20 Texas A&M on a four-game win streak. The Aggies have lost two of three after Saturday's four-overtime loss at Auburn. The winner advances to the Southeastern Conference championship game against Georgia. The Broncos are tied with Notre Dame for the second-longest active win streak, at nine games, and they seem to have adopted a survive-and-advance mantra. They trailed 23-point underdog Wyoming in the fourth quarter before winning 17-13 and clinching a spot in the Mountain West championship game. They won their previous game, 42-21 against San Jose State, but didn't pull away until the fourth quarter. Two weeks ago they beat a three-win Nevada team 28-21. Just when you think Illinois is about to cash in for the season, they do what they did against Rutgers. The Illini were down 31-30 when they lined up for a 58-yard field goal with 14 seconds left. Ethan Moczulski missed. But wait. Rutgers called timeout before the snap, and Bret Bielema thought better of trying another kick and sent his offense back on the field. Luke Altmyer passed to Pat Bryant for the winning 40-yard touchdown. The Illini won't play for the Big Ten title, but they have a chance for nine wins and a nice bowl. Ohio State played in three of the five regular-season top-five matchups and won three of them. The Buckeyes lost to Oregon and beat Penn State and Indiana. ... Kansas' 37-21 win over Colorado made the Jayhawks the first FBS team with a losing record to beat three straight Top 25 opponents. The Jayhawks, who were 2-6 a month ago, will be bowl eligible if they win at Baylor. ... Nebraska ended the longest power conference bowl drought with its 44-25 win over Wisconsin. The Cornhuskers haven't played in a bowl since 2016. Share Tweet Share Share Email In recent years, technology has significantly transformed various aspects of personal injury law, and Georgia is no exception. Personal injury cases, whether stemming from a car accident, slip and fall, or workplace injury, have become more data-driven and streamlined thanks to advancements in technology. For those pursuing a personal injury claim in Georgia, having a skilled personal injury attorney in Atlanta can make a substantial difference in navigating the complexities of these tech-driven changes. Technology offers many tools that can be leveraged to strengthen a case, expedite proceedings, and ultimately ensure fair compensation. From evidence collection to case management, and even courtroom procedures, technology has brought a new level of efficiency and transparency to personal injury claims in Georgia. This post will explore how technology is changing personal injury law and how individuals in Georgia can take advantage of these advancements to improve their case outcomes. The Role of Technology in Evidence Collection for Personal Injury Cases One of the most significant ways technology is impacting personal injury cases is through the collection and presentation of evidence. In personal injury law, evidence is crucial to proving fault, assessing damages, and securing fair compensation. Advances in technology provide more precise, comprehensive, and accessible ways to gather and present evidence. Dash Cam Footage : With the proliferation of dash cameras in vehicles, many personal injury cases, especially car accident claims, now have valuable video evidence. In the event of a collision, dash cam footage can help demonstrate the actions of all involved parties, traffic conditions, and even the precise moments leading up to the crash. This can be a game-changer in determining fault and strengthening the injured party’s case. Surveillance Cameras : In incidents like slip and fall accidents or other injuries that occur on business property, security cameras often capture critical moments before, during, and after the accident. Surveillance footage can show whether the property owner failed to maintain safe conditions, such as wet floors, faulty lighting, or obstructed walkways. This visual evidence can be vital in proving negligence and establishing liability. Mobile Devices : Smartphones have become invaluable in the aftermath of accidents. Personal injury victims can use their phones to take pictures of the scene, capture the condition of their injuries, and record any evidence such as faulty equipment or hazardous conditions. GPS tracking on smartphones also allows for accurate records of the accident’s location, which can help validate claims regarding the scene of the incident. Social Media and Online Platforms : Social media can provide vital evidence in personal injury cases. Injured parties might post updates about their injuries, recovery, or accident on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. While these posts can sometimes be detrimental to a claim, they can also provide evidence to support a case, such as photos or statements that show the severity of the injury or the circumstances surrounding the accident. For those pursuing a personal injury claim in Georgia, a skilled personal injury attorney in Atlanta can help navigate the complexities of collecting, organizing, and presenting this evidence in a way that strengthens the case and improves the chances of a favorable outcome. The Impact of Technology on Case Management and Legal Strategy Technology has also revolutionized case management, making it easier for personal injury attorneys to track case progress, communicate with clients, and gather the necessary information for a successful outcome. Case Management Software : Many personal injury law firms in Atlanta utilize advanced case management software to organize client files, medical records, accident reports, and other case-related documents. This software allows attorneys to access and share important information quickly, ensuring that no critical details are overlooked. It also improves the efficiency of the legal process, enabling attorneys to keep track of deadlines and other important milestones. Medical Record Integration : Personal injury cases often require a thorough understanding of medical records and treatment history. Technology has made it easier to access, compile, and review medical documentation. With electronic health records (EHRs), doctors and hospitals can share patient data more efficiently, providing attorneys with a comprehensive understanding of the plaintiff’s injuries and treatment. This access helps attorneys assess the full scope of the damages and better calculate compensation. Digital Communication Tools : Communication between clients and attorneys has become more efficient thanks to digital tools. Video calls, secure client portals, and real-time messaging platforms allow clients to stay informed about their case’s progress without needing to make frequent trips to the lawyer’s office. For those recovering from injuries, this convenience is especially valuable, as it helps them stay involved in their case without the added burden of physical meetings. How Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics Are Changing Personal Injury Cases Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics are increasingly playing a role in personal injury law, helping both attorneys and clients navigate the complexities of injury claims. AI can enhance decision-making, predict case outcomes, and help legal professionals assess damages more accurately. Predicting Case Outcomes : AI algorithms can analyze past case data to predict the likely outcome of a case based on similar circumstances, such as the severity of the injury, the location of the accident, and other relevant factors. This predictive analysis can help personal injury attorneys in Atlanta develop more effective strategies, set realistic expectations for clients, and decide whether to pursue a case or negotiate a settlement. Damage Calculation Tools : Calculating the full extent of damages in personal injury cases is often complex, involving both economic and non-economic factors. Technology can simplify this process. For instance, AI-powered tools can analyze a person’s medical history, current injury status, lost wages, and projected future medical expenses to create an accurate estimate of the financial compensation that may be appropriate. These tools help ensure that all damages are accounted for and that the injured party receives appropriate compensation for their pain, suffering, and lost quality of life. Automated Document Review : With large volumes of documents to sift through in personal injury cases, AI-powered software can streamline the process of reviewing contracts, accident reports, and medical records. This helps lawyers save time, spot critical details, and improve the overall efficiency of their work. The Use of Technology in the Courtroom In addition to pre-trial and case management tools, technology is also making a significant impact on the way personal injury cases are handled in courtrooms. Digital Presentations : Technology allows personal injury attorneys to create more compelling presentations in court. Attorneys can use multimedia tools to present accident reconstructions, medical imagery, and even 3D animations that demonstrate how an accident occurred. These digital presentations help jurors and judges better understand complex aspects of a case, such as the mechanics of a car crash or the long-term effects of an injury. Remote Hearings : Virtual court hearings and depositions have become more common in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the trend continues. This technology allows for more flexible scheduling, reduces the need for travel, and makes the legal process more accessible. For personal injury plaintiffs who are recovering from injuries, participating in a virtual hearing can be more convenient and less stressful than attending in person. Courtroom Transcription Technology : Real-time transcription services and speech-to-text tools allow court reporters to create accurate records of every word spoken during a trial. This technology enables attorneys to quickly review testimony and cross-examine witnesses with greater efficiency. Conclusion Technology is undeniably transforming personal injury law in Georgia. From improving evidence collection and case management to enhancing courtroom procedures, advancements in technology have made the process faster, more efficient, and more reliable. For those pursuing a personal injury claim, especially after a car accident or workplace injury, the support of a skilled personal injury attorney in Atlanta can help leverage these technological tools to your advantage. If you’ve been involved in an accident, seeking legal assistance from a car accident attorney in Atlanta who is well-versed in the latest technologies can significantly impact your case. Technology is reshaping personal injury law, but having a knowledgeable attorney to guide you through the process ensures you receive the best possible outcome in an increasingly complex legal environment. Investors can appreciate that putting money to work in the stock market and having a very long-term mindset can end up resulting in truly remarkable results. This makes investing something I believe all people should at least learn the basics of. While the overall market has climbed over time, there have been certain businesses that have been massive winners. In fact, there's one dominant retail stock that has generated a monster total return of 3,330,000% (as of Dec. 18) since its initial public offering in September 1981. That means a $10,000 investment made just over four decades ago would be worth an astonishing $333 million today. You don't want to miss this company. Perhaps it deserves a closer look right now. Boring is beautiful It's quite amazing to think that Home Depot ( HD 1.97% ) has been able to put up such a fantastic performance. I'm sure most readers would've assumed the business in question had exposure to the technology sector. However, the world's leading home improvement chain has taken care of its shareholders by operating a simple business model, which is to sell tools, supplies, and equipment to both DIY and professional customers via a network of physical stores. That playbook hasn't really changed. About 30 years ago in fiscal 1993, Home Depot generated $9.2 billion in total sales. And it had 264 stores in operation. The management team in those days understood quickly that the correct strategy was to invest aggressively to rapidly expand the footprint across the country. These days, there are 2,345 Home Depot locations in all, with 2,024 in the U.S. and its territories, 182 in Canada, and 139 in Mexico. What's more, the company claims that 90% of the population in this country is within 10 miles of a Home Depot. That broad reach is hard to overstate. Of course, it's not a shocker that all of that growth has resulted in a dominant retail enterprise. In the last 12 months, Home Depot reported $155 billion in revenue, astronomically higher than in fiscal 1993. And the business posted almost $15 billion in net income in the last year. Capital returns Home Depot's financial position these days affords it the ability to return copious amounts of cash back to shareholders. The company paid out $6.7 billion in dividends in the last nine months. The dividend yield is just over 2.3% right now. Even more impressive is the fact that the quarterly payout has increased 281% in the past decade. Management also focuses on share repurchases. In the past five years, the diluted outstanding share count has shrunk by 9.2%. This raises the ownership stake of existing investors. Keep Home Depot on your radar While Home Depot's historical track record of growth is undeniable, the company is facing a difficult reality today. Tighter macro conditions in recent years, particularly higher interest rates and inflationary pressures, have discouraged consumers from taking on renovation projects. This helps explain why same-store sales dipped 3.2% in fiscal 2023, with the expectation that they will decline 2.5% in the current fiscal year. However, Home Depot does benefit from some favorable industry tailwinds. The median age of a home in the U.S. has steadily increased over time. Older houses understandably need more repairs and upgrades. Additionally, the U.S. continues to face a substantial housing inventory shortage. Low housing supply incentivizes people not to move, instead investing in renovations at their current dwellings. At a high level, I think it's safe to assume that the overall housing and home improvement industry will continue to be critical parts of the economy decades from now. Investors shouldn't expect forward returns to resemble the past, but Home Depot certainly deserves to be on your watch list.Valtteri Bottas has confirmed he picked up the bill for Thursday’s F1 2024 driver dinner. and given he’s unemployed as of Monday, he may be grateful that a few drivers didn’t pitch. The squabbling rivals made a point of sitting as far away from one another as possible, with claims that Russell even moved his chair after the others cheekily left him an open space next to Verstappen . But once fans on social media had scrutinised the seating plans, who’s friends with who, and who was absent – Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll and Kevin Magnussen – attention turned to the cheque. In years gone by, that has traditionally been left to the World Champion as Nico Rosberg once revealed: “The hidden agreement usually is that the World Champion pays.” However, last year the 2023 World Champion Max Verstappen didn’t attend while this year Verstappen avoided the bill when another driver stepped forward to pay it. It was soon-to-be-former Sauber driver Bottas . “I can confirm, it was my pleasure,” he said. Asked if he was willing to reveal the cost, he replied: “I think it was about 20,000 local money whatever that is in Euros.” At today’s exchange rates, that’s €5,152. Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marks Bottas final race as a Sauber driver but the Finn says it may not be his Formula 1 retirement party. 👉 F1 2024 driver salaries revealed: Who are the highest-paid drivers on the grid? 👉 F1 2025 driver line-up: Who is already confirmed for the 2025 grid? “I still don’t think it’s guaranteed that it’s my last race – that’s my feeling,” he told the media including PlanetF1.com ahead of the Abu Dhabi weekend. “It should be an interesting weekend. Let’s see if there are any emotions or if it’s business as usual. And then we see afterwards.” Afterwards, at least for now, is a potential return to Mercedes as the team’s reserve driver. Bottas has been in talks with Toto Wolff for several weeks but heads into the final race of the season still undecided. “Just because I’m in no rush,” he said. “I want to see all the opportunities out there, but we’re still in regular touch and we did agree that we’re going to catch up after the last race. “It’s been busy three weeks for everyone, so it’s going to be easier next week, but there’s no hurdles and such. “We both have the interest. So it’s just that either side, we haven’t been in a rush to do anything.” Read next: Russell handed ‘bottom line’ warning amid Max Verstappen war of words
These Climate Solutions Stocks Have Turned Up the Heat in 2024. Can Their Rally Continue, or Will They Cool Off in 2025?
Ravens QB Lamar Jackson reflects on time with former OC Greg RomanSince the passage of the Clean Air Act in 1970, the Environmental Protection Agency has worked collaboratively with the automotive industry to reduce air pollution from light duty vehicles. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the EPA’s Automotive Trends Report, an annual publication that explains the agency’s complex regulatory framework and documents the compliance of individual automakers. The authoritative report features a comprehensive dataset on every light duty vehicle sold in the United States since 1975and provides sophisticated analysis of the major trends shaping the industry’s environmental outcomes. The 2024 report includes finalized data from the 2023 model year and is prefaced by a letter from EPA Administrator Michael Regan acknowledging the 50-year milestone. The congratulatory statement honors the agency’s career professionals, highlighting achievements that “ultimately led to an impressive 99 percent reduction of common vehicle tailpipe pollutants, such as hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter.” The letter goes on to emphasize the scientific value of the dataset as the auto industry struggles to mitigate tailpipe carbon dioxide, an inevitable byproduct of gasoline combustion and a substantial contributor to climate change. Carbon dioxide emissions are now the primary focus of the report, and the latest statistics provide a bit of encouraging news. The average light duty vehicle from model year 2023 produced 319 grams of carbon dioxide per mile (g/mi), an 18-g/mi improvement over model year 2022. The respectable reduction in tailpipe emissions corresponded to a year over year fuel economy gain of 1.1 MPG, with the average 2023 vehicle getting 27.1 miles to the gallon. The fifty-year history of real-world fuel economy trends can be divided into three distinct periods. Between 1975 and 1987, fuel economy improved rapidly as the United States responded to the Arab oil embargo, rising from 13.1 MPG to 22.0 MPG. When concerns about energy independence faded during the late eighties, gas mileage began a slow descent, dropping steadily to a low of 19.3 MPG in 2004. A strong upward trend emerged in 2005 as growing apprehension about climate change catalyzed a relentless effort to mitigate tailpipe carbon dioxide. The 2023 figures for MPG and CO2 emissions are the latest in a string of all-time records that began in 2009. The EPA attributes most of the recent progress to increased production of battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. When BEVs and PHEVs are statistically removed from the 2023 model year fleet, average CO2 emissions rise to 357 g/mi and average fuel economy drops to 24.9 MPG. These hypothetical averages are identical to the finalized outcomes from the 2017 model year. Automotive technologies that increase the fuel economy of conventional internal combustion vehicles are being undermined by consumer trends favoring larger, more powerful models, and it will be challenging to improve their efficiency much further. The 50th Anniversary of the Automotive Trends Report coincides with a dawning era of environmental innovation. Maintaining progress against carbon dioxide will now depend on increasing the proliferation of our cleanest powertrains, and there are good reasons to be hopeful as we reflect on the promising outcomes from 2023.
The single mother who runs OnlyFans and insists it's a feminist site amid Lily Phillips and Bonnie Blue controversy READ: OnlyFans star reveals grim reality of Lily Phillips' sleeping with 100 men By KATHERINE LAWTON Published: 02:49, 30 December 2024 | Updated: 02:51, 30 December 2024 e-mail View comments A single parent of two daughters who juggles motherhood with a dazzling career as a chief executive, Keily Blair could pass as the ultimate inspiration to women. The lawyer turned CEO of OnlyFans , 42, has seen her corporate career fly from one success to the next, advocating for women's 'choice' over their money, jobs and bodies since taking on the role in July 2023. But while the porn-friendly site is painted as a feminist platform for women to get rich and gain sexual agency, OnlyFans is also home to 'dangerous' sex stunts that put vulnerable women at risk. OnlyFans star Lily Phillips recently shocked the world after revealing she'd had sex with over 100 men in one night - and that her next goal was to bed 1,000 men in 24 hours. Lily, who posted the explicit content to her OnlyFans page, was filmed in tears after the ordeal, which she admitted was more 'intense' than she'd hoped and forced her to 'dissociate' from what was happening. The controversial stunt received backlash from fellow OnlyFans stars, who called it a form of 'self harm' and argued it 'sends a message' to other creators that 'pushing yourself to dangerous extremes is normal'. The sex work life differs from the corporate one of Blair's, who went from London-based partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP - specialising in cyber, privacy, and security - to an executive at her former client, OnlyFans. The mother-of-two speaks publicly about women having 'choice' over their own lives, arguing in a recent interview: 'I fundamentally believe that people should be able to make choices about what they do. 'There are things that have happened to me probably uniquely because I'm female,' she said. 'I remember coming back from maternity leave and I remember there was a project being discussed that would involve international travel. There was an automatic assumption that I wouldn't want to go.' She added: 'I remember going into the managing partner's office and sitting down and I said, 'This may be coming from a place of kindness, but do you realise that you just ruled me out of a really interesting job because I've just come back from maternity leave because you think I won't want to spend time away from my baby'.' In January 2020, Blair joined Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe, a London law firm. At Orrick, she was head of the firm's cyber, privacy and data innovation practice - with OnlyFans among her clients. She succeeded Amrapali 'Ami' Gan, who stepped down to pursue new endeavors, OnlyFans said at the time. On securing the position, Blair reiterated the importance of 'choice' for the site's creators, sating: 'OnlyFans only succeeds when creators succeed. Speaking to Fortune about her decision to leave a 'professional background', she said she was ready for a 'negative reaction', but describes the site as a 'UK tech success story'. In October this year, she claimed a top priority of the company was to provide safety to OnlyFans users. 'Everyone assumes it's sexy content. Some of it sexy content and we're very happy with that, we're an inclusive platform, and we're that way for a reason,' she said. 'We believe it's very important for adult content creators to have a safe space, to be able to monetize and also to be able to do that alongside other content creators.' But some high profile OnlyFans stars have found themselves the victims of terrifying death threats. Bonnie Blue, famed for bragging about sleeping with 'barely legal 18-year-olds', revealed she gets up to 300 death threats a day from women and was told she would 'end up in a box' after her sex marathons. The 25-year-old said she makes up to a whopping £750,000 a month, which includes posting X-rated content on her OnlyFans account. In exchange, they had to consent to her posting the content online. But Bonnie - who has been slammed by parents - was forced to contact the police after receiving vicious death threats on social media that left her fearing for her life. 'I must get 200 to 300 plus death threats a day,' she told The Sun. 'The one I got this morning was like: ''When you arrive in Surfers Paradise [in Australia], you're going to be leaving in a box. You should kill yourself before we have to kill you.''' 'Wishing someone dead and wishing harm on them? That's a bad person, not me.' From December 2021 to June 2023, the UK-based company saw its global user base increase to more than 220 million fans and over 3 million creators. OnlyFans, which is based in the UK, relies solely on subscriptions, pay-per-view events or tips for its online creators, with a large portion creating adult content. The company has paid out $20billion to its creators since its inception in 2016 , it was revealed earlier this year. Despite her success, Blair has experienced negative reactions since becoming CEO, one example being when a bank rejected her as a customer for a personal account because of her association with OnlyFans. 'I was an equity partner at a law firm, one of only a handful of women who was an equity partner, and I had a team of people working for me,' she told the FT . 'That institution would previously have been incredibly keen to have my business. Nothing about me has changed, nothing about my risk profile has changed.' Financial institutions, fearful of facilitating financial transactions for illegal sex work or crimes like sex trafficking, often turned down those associated with such platforms. New Delhi: Many Railway and power sector stocks have given strong returns to their investors in the last one year. However, the shares recorded a certain amount of decline during the recent ‘market correction’. Two stocks – Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Tata Power have given bumper returns to the shareholders. However, these two counters also witnessed a drop. RVNL share price target RVNL shares have recorded a continuous decline in the recent months. The railway stock is tagged as a multibagger and is very popular amongst the investors. Recently, the scrip had increased to the level of Rs 480, but from there it is continuously falling. In the last one year, this stock has given returns of more than 130 per cent. On December 27, 2024 RVNL share price closed at Rs 425.25. Commenting on the RVNL share price, Sharad Mishra, CIO of sharadmishra.com, said that a good breakout was seen in RVNL shares. Its financial results were also good. However, despite this the stock did not move. He said that this happened due to market weakness. The strike base of the stock is around Rs 408. Those who have RVNL shares should maintain a Stop Loss at Rs 408. If it goes below this, you can sell the position. He said that a big move in the stock can come if it reaches Rs 463. If the stock sustains its movement at this levels, it can go up to Rs 550. He advised the investors to buy the stock when there is a big upside move in the stocks. Tata Power share price target Giving his opinion on Tata Power stock, the market expert said that a broad top pattern is being formed inside Tata Power and interested investors can purchase the stock in the range of Rs 397-Rs 410. Billionaire Elon Musk is calling Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “an insufferable tool” in a new social media post on Wednesday. “Won’t be in power for much longer,” Musk also wrote about the prime minister on “X.” Musk was responding to a video posted of Trudeau, in which the prime minister described Kamala Harris’ U.S. presidential loss as a setback for women’s progress. “We were supposed to be on a steady, if difficult sometimes, march towards progress. And yet, just a few weeks ago, the United States voted for a second time to not elect its first woman president," Trudeau said during a speech at the Equal Voice Foundation Gala in Ottawa on Tuesday night. Elon Musk called Prime Minister Justin Trudeau 'an insufferable tool' on social medi. (Credit: X) Trudeau also said women’s rights and women’s progress are “under attack overtly and subtlety,” and that he “always will be a proud feminist.” Musk, who founded SpaceX, has been tasked to co-chair U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency. He was also a prominent figure in Trump’s election campaign. Wednesday’s post is Musk’s latest swipe at the prime minister since Trump was re-elected in November. Responding to a user on “X” on Nov. 7 asking for Musk’s help to get rid of Trudeau, Musk wrote “He will be gone in the upcoming election.” The post also comes during at a tense time in Canada-U.S. relations. Trudeau has been facing social media jabs from Trump following the prime minister’s visit to Mar-a-Lago nearly two weeks ago to discuss Trump’s tariff threat. Last month, Trump threatened to impose a 25 per cent tariff on all Canadian imports on his first day in office unless Canada addresses his border security concerns. Following that meeting, U.S. network Fox News reported Trump joked during the dinner in Florida that if the potential tariffs would harm the Canadian economy — as the prime minister conveyed to him — perhaps Canada should become America's 51st state . Days later, Trump posted an A.I.-generated image to social media that depicted him standing next to a Canadian flag and overlooking a mountain range with the caption “Oh Canada!” In an interview on Sunday with NBC’s Meet The Press, Trump made another reference to Canada becoming a state. "We're subsidizing Canada to the tune over $100 billion a year. We're subsidizing Mexico for almost $300 billion. We shouldn't be — why are we subsidizing these countries?" Trump said to NBC News. "If we're going to subsidize them, let them become a state." And just yesterday, Trump appeared to be mocking Trudeau, calling him “ Governor Justin Trudeau ” in a post on Truth Social. "It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada. I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!" Trump wrote. This week, Trudeau said Canada “will respond” if the U.S. moves ahead with a 25 per cent tariff. The federal government also says it will be adding more personnel and equipment resources, and show more visibility at the border in the wake of the tariff threat.
As it crossed the Niger Delta in 2021, a satellite imaged acres of bare land. The site outside the city of Port Harcourt was on a United Nations Environment Programme cleanup list, supposed to be restored to green farmland as the Delta was before thousands of oil spills turned it into a byword for pollution. Instead it was left a sandy “moonscape” unusable for farming, according to U.N. documents. It wasn’t the only botched cleanup, a cache of previously unreported investigations, emails, letters to Nigerian ministers and meeting minutes show. Senior U.N. officials considered the Nigerian cleanup agency a “total failure.” The agency, the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, or Hyprep, selected cleanup contractors without relevant experience, a U.N. review found. It sent soil samples to laboratories lacking the equipment for tests they had claimed to perform. Auditors were physically blocked from checking that work had been completed. Most cleanup companies are owned by politicians, a former Nigerian environment minister told the AP, and correspondence shows similar views were shared by U.N. officials. It wasn’t supposed to be this way. There have been thousands of oil spills since Niger Delta production began in the 1950s. Reports and studies document that people often wash, drink, fish and cook in contaminated water. Spills still occur frequently. In November, the Ogboinbiri community in Bayelsa state suffered its fourth spill in three months, harming fields, streams and fishing. “We have not harvested anything," said farmer Timipre Bridget, there is now “no way to survive.” After a major U.N. pollution survey in 2011, oil companies agreed to a $1 billion cleanup fund for the worst-affected area, Ogoniland. Shell, the largest private oil and gas company in the country, contributed $300 million. The U.N. was relegated to an advisory role. The Nigerian government would handle the funds. But a confidential investigation by U.N. scientists last year found the site outside Port Harcourt was left with a “complete absence of topsoil,” with almost seven times more petroleum remaining than Nigerian health limits allow. The company responsible had its contract revoked, Nenibarini Zabbey, the current director of Hyprep, told the AP by email. The head of operations when the contract was awarded, Philip Shekwolo, called allegations in the U.N. documents “baseless" and "cheap blackmail.” Shekwolo, who used to head up oil spill remediation for Shell, insists the cleanup was successful. But the documents show U.N. officials raising the alarm since 2021, when Shekwolo was acting chief. A January 2022 U.N. review found 21 of the 41 contractors okayed to clean up spill sites had no relevant experience. These included construction companies and general merchants. They were effectively handed a “blank check,” U.N. Senior Project Advisor Iyenemi Kakulu is recorded saying in the minutes of a meeting with Hyprep and Shell. Incompetent companies were to blame for bad cleanups, Hyprep’s own communications chief, Joseph Kpobari is in the minutes as having said. Despite this, they were rewarded contracts for more polluted sites, the U.N. delegation warned. Zabbey denied Kpobari’s admission. He said 16 out of 20 sites in the project’s first stage are certified as clean by Nigerian regulators and many have been returned to communities. Hyprep always issued contracts correctly, he said. Two sources close to the cleanup efforts, speaking anonymously for fear of loss of business or employment, said when officials visited laboratories used by Hyprep, they lacked equipment needed to perform the tests they reported. In a letter to customers, one U.K. laboratory frequently used by Hyprep acknowledged its tests for most of 2022 were flawed and unreliable and the U.K. laboratory accreditation service confirmed the lab was twice suspended. Zabbey says now Hyprep monitors contractors more closely, labs adhere to Nigerian and U.N. recommendations and are frequently checked. The U.N. also warned the Nigerian government in a 2021 assessment that Hyprep’s spending was not being tracked. Internal auditors were considered “the enemy” and “demonized for doing their job.” Shekwolo’s predecessor as Hyprep chief blocked financial controls and “physically prevented” auditors from checking that work had been completed, it found. Zabbey responded that the audit team is valued now, and accounts are audited annually, although he provided only one audit cover letter. In it, the accountants “identified weaknesses.” One Nigerian politician tried to change things: Sharon Ikeazor spent decades as a lawyer before becoming environment minister in 2019. “The companies had no competence whatsoever,” she said in a phone interview. In February 2022, she received a letter from senior U.N. official Muralee Thummarukudy, warning of “significant opportunities for malpractice" over contract awards, unusually strong language in U.N. diplomacy. She removed Shekwolo as acting Hyprep chief the next month, explaining that she believed he was too close to the politicians. Most cleanup companies were owned by politicians, she said. The few competent companies “wouldn’t get the big jobs.” Shekwolo assessed who was competent for contract awards, Ikeazor said. Shekwolo’s former employer Shell and the U.N. both warned her about him, she said, something Shekwolo says he was unaware of. Ikeazor asked Shekwolo’s successor to review every suspect contract and investigate the cleanup companies. “That sent shockwaves around the political class,” she said. She was quickly replaced as environment minister, with Shekwolo rehired, after just two months out of office. Shekwolo denied being too close to politicians. He insists no reason was given for his removal and suggested Ikeazor simply didn’t like him. Last year, the U.N. Environment Programme ended its official involvement in the Nigerian oil spill cleanup, explaining its five-year consultancy was over. Ikeazor said the real reason was U.N. frustration over corruption, and the two sources close to the project concurred. Zabbey said he believes the U.N. merely changed its goals and moved on. Emergence Of False Prophets Sign Of End-Time – Rev. Isaac Omolehin
Etain Fitzpatrick was diagnosed with oral cancer in September 2022 after noticing that a persistent mouth ulcer had not healed for several weeks. The woman hopes her cancer journey highlights the critical role dental check-ups play in the early detection of oral health issues. She explained she is passionate about raising awareness of oral cancer and is encouraging others to attend regular dental appointments. In early 2021 Etain explained she attended a routine dental examination when her dentist initially noticed some white spots under her tongue, she was then referred to the Ulster Hospital to have these investigated and a biopsy was performed. The results of the biopsy came back clear with nothing of a concerning nature, she was told to keep a close check for any further changes. However, in August 2022 Etain noticed that an ulcer had started to form on the side of her tongue, which was very uncomfortable and painful at times. She explained: “I was using an over-the-counter gel and I ended up going to the chemist to see if I could get something a little bit stronger as the ulcer was so painful as it was catching on my teeth. "The pharmacist recommended that I go back to my dentist who, following examination, then referred me as a red-flag patient to the Ulster Hospital. Within five weeks, I had an appointment and had a biopsy of the ulcer undertaken. "During the five-week wait, the ulcer got really aggressive and painful to the extent that I could hardly eat and I started to lose weight, only able to eat yogurts and soft fruit.” Following the biopsy, she had a gut feeling that it wasn’t going to be good news. Etain was told that cancer had been detected. "Very swiftly, I was admitted to the Ulster Hospital and underwent surgery to remove the cancer from my tongue. I was in surgery for approximately ten hours and had 25% of my tongue removed,” she said. "My tongue was rebuilt using various grafts from my thigh and arm and I spent around 10 days in hospital recovering. "The surgery was extensive and everything was explained to me beforehand, how my speech could be severely impacted and that I could have problems moving my neck.” Her recovery went well, however after being discharged from hospital, she explainedwaiting for the pathology report was an “extremely anxious” time. She said: “When the consultant contacted me to tell me that I was now cancer-free, I was in tears, I couldn’t believe it. "He said I had a good margin and no further treatment such as radiotherapy or chemotherapy was required. "Around 50% of oral cancer patients who have had the same type of surgery as myself require some form of additional treatment, so somebody was definitely looking down on me. I feel blessed that I did not require any further treatment. “My advice is never ignore dental appointments, I never thought my dentist would be the first port of call for oral cancer. I never miss a dental appointment and it was my dentist who identified the cancer. "It was never a cancer that crossed my mind. I had breast cancer eighteen years ago, so raising awareness is so important to me.” Now on the road to recovery, Etain, a keen mountain walker said that physical exercise has helped her both mentally and physically. She stated: "A big part of my life is physical activity such as climbing mountains as I live in Co Down with beautiful surroundings and parks. "Physical activity definitely helped me on my road to recovery both mentally and physically.” Highlighting the signs and symptoms of oral cancer, consultant oral & maxillo-facial Surgeon, Mr John Hanratty explained: “Mouth cancer can present in different ways, it could be an ulcer that has been present for more than three weeks, a white or red patch in the mouth that is giving symptoms of pain, or a lump or swelling in the mouth, oral cavity or neck area. "So we would ask that if you have any of these you should be checked by a dentist or GP. “Evidence also shows that oral cancer is more prevalent with social deprivation, poor diet, increased alcohol consumption and smoking which are all increased risk factors. "We know that early detection and treatment can lead to better outcomes for the patient. But unfortunately only 20% of people will present with an early stage cancer. "The majority about 45% will present with a cancer that is large or has spread elsewhere and this gives the cancer a greater stage and poorer outcome for patients. So we would ask that if you have a problem please don’t be afraid to let your doctor or dentist know.” Reflecting on her cancer journey, Etain stated, “I cannot thank the oral and maxillo-facial team at the Ulster Hospital enough, they are my heroes and my angels. "From the consultants, nurses, clinic staff and those on the ward, they are simply amazing, what a team.” News Catch up - Wednesday 27th NovemberWith his impressive performances on the pitch, young talent Lukman has become the focus of attention for a number of top English football clubs. By MICHELLE L. PRICE WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — An online spat between factions of Donald Trump’s supporters over immigration and the tech industry has thrown internal divisions in his political movement into public display, previewing the fissures and contradictory views his coalition could bring to the White House. The rift laid bare the tensions between the newest flank of Trump’s movement — wealthy members of the tech world including billionaire Elon Musk and fellow entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and their call for more highly skilled workers in their industry — and people in Trump’s Make America Great Again base who championed his hardline immigration policies. The debate touched off this week when Laura Loomer , a right-wing provocateur with a history of racist and conspiratorial comments, criticized Trump’s selection of Sriram Krishnan as an adviser on artificial intelligence policy in his coming administration. Krishnan favors the ability to bring more skilled immigrants into the U.S. Loomer declared the stance to be “not America First policy” and said the tech executives who have aligned themselves with Trump were doing so to enrich themselves. Much of the debate played out on the social media network X, which Musk owns. Loomer’s comments sparked a back-and-forth with venture capitalist and former PayPal executive David Sacks , whom Trump has tapped to be the “White House A.I. & Crypto Czar.” Musk and Ramaswamy, whom Trump has tasked with finding ways to cut the federal government , weighed in, defending the tech industry’s need to bring in foreign workers. It bloomed into a larger debate with more figures from the hard-right weighing in about the need to hire U.S. workers, whether values in American culture can produce the best engineers, free speech on the internet, the newfound influence tech figures have in Trump’s world and what his political movement stands for. Trump has not yet weighed in on the rift, and his presidential transition team did not respond to a message seeking comment. Musk, the world’s richest man who has grown remarkably close to the president-elect , was a central figure in the debate, not only for his stature in Trump’s movement but his stance on the tech industry’s hiring of foreign workers. Technology companies say H-1B visas for skilled workers, used by software engineers and others in the tech industry, are critical for hard-to-fill positions. But critics have said they undercut U.S. citizens who could take those jobs. Some on the right have called for the program to be eliminated, not expanded. Born in South Africa, Musk was once on an a H-1B visa himself and defended the industry’s need to bring in foreign workers. “There is a permanent shortage of excellent engineering talent,” he said in a post. “It is the fundamental limiting factor in Silicon Valley.” Related Articles National Politics | Should the U.S. increase immigration levels for highly skilled workers? His tough immigration policies, including his pledge for a mass deportation, were central to his winning presidential campaign. He has focused on immigrants who come into the U.S. illegally but he has also sought curbs on legal immigration , including family-based visas. As a presidential candidate in 2016, Trump called the H-1B visa program “very bad” and “unfair” for U.S. workers. After he became president, Trump in 2017 issued a “Buy American and Hire American” executive order , which directed Cabinet members to suggest changes to ensure H-1B visas were awarded to the highest-paid or most-skilled applicants to protect American workers. Trump’s businesses, however, have hired foreign workers, including waiters and cooks at his Mar-a-Lago club , and his social media company behind his Truth Social app has used the the H-1B program for highly skilled workers. During his 2024 campaign for president, as he made immigration his signature issue, Trump said immigrants in the country illegally are “poisoning the blood of our country” and promised to carry out the largest deportation operation in U.S. history. But in a sharp departure from his usual alarmist message around immigration generally, Trump told a podcast this year that he wants to give automatic green cards to foreign students who graduate from U.S. colleges. “I think you should get automatically, as part of your diploma, a green card to be able to stay in this country,” he told the “All-In” podcast with people from the venture capital and technology world. Those comments came on the cusp of Trump’s budding alliance with tech industry figures, but he did not make the idea a regular part of his campaign message or detail any plans to pursue such changes.Job market jitters real for some mid-career Minnesotans and recent grads
Title: Foreign Media Predictions for Today's Champions League: Real Madrid's Win Rate Below Forty Percent, Paris, Bayern, Liverpool Have Clear AdvantagesCLEVELAND (AP) — Myles Garrett was in no mood to celebrate his birthday or making history. Garrett recorded two sacks to become the first NFL player with 14 sacks in four straight seasons, but the Cleveland Browns couldn't do anything on offense during a 20-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Garrett turned 29 and turned in another stellar performance in this dreadful season for the Browns (3-13), who had hoped to take another step after making the playoffs a year ago. But nothing has gone right in Cleveland, and now the team is facing another offseason of change. Garrett has 14 sacks this season and 102 1/2 in his eight-year career. He's making the case for a second consecutive NFL defensive player of the year honor. But there isn't any award that will ease the pain of his fourth double-digit loss season. “At the end of the day, we play for wins,” Garrett said. “The individual stuff is great. It's nice, you want to be remembered for all of the above. But cities remember you for wins and bringing championships back home. “That's always been my intention. So, I want to get back on track, want to get back to winning, whether it's the last one or whatever's in store next season.” Garrett recently made it clear that he does not want to be part of another rebuild in Cleveland, saying he wanted to see the team's plans to improve the roster. His comments opened the possibility that he could ask for a trade if he isn't satisfied with the Browns' outlook. After the Browns dropped their fifth in a row to finish 2-6 at home, Garrett said he never considered that it might be his last game in Cleveland. “I don't think about that kind of stuff,” he said. “My mission is to go out there and try to help this team win as a leader, as a brother, as a teammate. That's what I solely focus on. I'm not looking into the future. Next thing on my mind is recovery, looking at film, how can we improve going to the Ravens and try to play spoiler for them.” Garrett hasn't given up. For the second week in a row, he displayed extraordinary effort while chasing a scrambling quarterback without getting a sack. He won't quit. “He's the best pass rusher in the game,” Browns guard Joel Bitonio said. “You could ask all the players, all the coaches. He's probably the guy they fear going up against the most. He's dynamic. He's a special player. He's doing his thing. I hope we can get some stuff around him so he can win some games around here.” Garrett twice went into the medical tent during the game. He slowly walked to his locker to get dressed before turning on some music that brought a little life into an otherwise somber Cleveland locker room. Garrett laughed when asked if he's pushing himself to the end. “I'm just old,” he said. “I'm 29. I'm not going to be dragging myself through the finish line. I'll be fine by Friday, Saturday and be ready to go. I always am." AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL

Support Hyperallergic’s independent arts journalism for as little as $8 per month. Become a Member How often do you think of music when viewing a visual artwork — a painting, photograph, or collage mounted and framed? Scholar Nikki A. Greene’s new book, Grime, Glitter, and Glass: The Body and the Sonic in Contemporary Black Art , explores this juxtaposition, putting the visual into conversation with the aural and the tactile. Fittingly, the book’s structure follows the five main components of a song’s composition: “Prelude,” “Verse One,” “Verse Two,” “Verse Three,” and “Coda.” Greene focuses each verse on a single artist — Renée Stout, Radcliffe Bailey, and María Magdalena Campos-Pons, respectively — and dissects specific works in terms of musicality and sonic resonance as much as visual aesthetic. While the focus seems narrow, each verse does not rest with just one artist. Instead, it ambitiously presents the artist’s particular regional context of Black art, music, and people at large. In order to delve into Stout, for example, Greene frames the realities of the United States mid-Atlantic throughout the 20th century. For Bailey, the American South; for Campos-Pons, Cuba and Caribbean diasporic relations to the US. Thus each chapter blends mini-artist biographies with a socio-political historical account, mapping out a lush and generative artistic family tree. When writing about Stout, Greene references Betye Saar. Much of Campos-Pons ’s chapter is dedicated to Carrie Mae Weems. Bailey’s chapter is dotted with connections to Romare Bearden, David Hammons, Todd Gray, and director Barry Jenkins among others. Get the latest art news, reviews and opinions from Hyperallergic. Daily Weekly Opportunities And then, of course, there’s the music. Complete with an accompanying playlist , Greene maps sonic affect by relating artistic intention to musical artists, identifying musical influences for visual work, and highlighting actual music within work and performances. In “Verse One,” Greene compares Stout’s use of the physical form and the provocation of Black feminine sexuality in sculpture to that of funk and rock pioneer Betty Davis . For both artists, she draws out the ways in which defiance is often marked by stigma and society’s delayed understanding. “Verse Two” sees a more abstracted effort to explore Bailey’s mixed-media work within the dual reality of Black excellence and anti-Black violence demonstrated by the South, where the late artist was based. Greene first details the music video for hip-hop group Arrested Development’s “Tennessee” (1992) in which Bailey appears, drawing a line to jazz greats Miles Davis (invoking his aforementioned ex-wife Betty) and Sun Ra. “Verse Two” feels slightly unwieldy and disjointed, perhaps due to Greene’s effort to outline the weight of Black masculinity and shine with which these artists wrestle. More successfully, Campos-Pons’s “Verse Three” tackles the Western lack of recognition of Black validity: in contributions to art, in the power and gift of Black women, in Cuba’s struggle for autonomy, and more. Greene brings in saxophonist Neil Leonard’s heavily researched compositions for Campos-Pons’s work, such as the performance piece Identified (2016), connecting the dots with late Afro-Cuban singer Celia Cruz’s distinctive use of sugar — ¡Azucar! — as a claim of feminine, Black, and Afro-Caribbean power. For all its feats, this book is ultimately a scholarly work and occasionally veers into academic language. The coda, in particular, is a possibly too-dense display of social theories and observations from Greene. But while the style demands some additional effort from the reader, it also means that the numerous Black names in the book — of both visual and musical artists — are now forever published and etched into the record of increasingly interdisciplinary approaches to creative fields. Sun Ra’s Afrofuturistic jazz does interact with Romare Bearden’s collage style, which in turn impacts Bailey’s glittering “Pullman” heart. Exploring the sonic grime via funk, glitter via shine, and glass via colonial histories of Black contemporary art through these selected artists, Greene adds a novel component to Black American cultural critique. Grime, Glitter, and Glass: The Body and the Sonic in Contemporary Black Art (2024) by Nikki A. The results of the Jharkhand Assembly elections will be announced on Saturday, with all eyes on the competitive race in the Chandankiyari constituency. The voting in this key constituency took place in the second phase on Wednesday, with a voter turnout of approximately 74.25%. Exit polls suggest a possible shift in power, predicting that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) may replace the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance. While most exit polls forecast an NDA victory, some still place the JMM-led alliance ahead. Chandankiyari, located in the Bokaro district and part of the Dhanbad Lok Sabha constituency, is a reserved Scheduled Caste (SC) seat that has become a battleground for major political forces. The primary contenders in this tight race are the BJP’s Amar Kumar Bauri, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, and the JMM’s Umakant Rajak, a former AJSU Party minister who recently switched allegiance to JMM. Bauri’s strong base and backing from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who campaigned in Bokaro, make this a high-stakes contest. Bauri has a solid electoral track record in Chandankiyari, having won the seat in 2019 with 67,739 votes, narrowly defeating Rajak, who received 58,528 votes as an AJSU candidate. This year’s election sees Rajak challenging his former rival, with his recent defection adding a new layer of complexity to the constituency’s political landscape. The electorate of Chandankiyari is diverse, with approximately 240,631 registered voters. The constituency has a significant SC population (23.5%) and a smaller ST population (7.7%), while 11.3% of voters belong to the Muslim community. In the 2019 Assembly election, voter turnout stood at a high 74.02%, underscoring the importance of voter engagement in this key constituency. Chandankiyari’s status as an industrial hub under the Chas Municipal Corporation adds economic weight to its political significance. Located in the Greater Bokaro region, the constituency houses several industries, further elevating its importance in Jharkhand's development narrative. With the exit polls predicting a tight race, the outcome of the Chandankiyari contest could be pivotal in determining the direction of the Jharkhand Assembly in the coming years. All eyes will be on the results as they unfold on Saturday, with the political future of the state at stake.

He was 92. Singh was admitted to New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences late Thursday after his health deteriorated due to a “sudden loss of consciousness at home,” the hospital said in a statement. “Resuscitative measures were started immediately at home. He was brought to the Medical Emergency” at 8:06 p.m., the hospital said, but “despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 p.m.” Singh was being treated for “age-related medical conditions,” the statement said. A mild-mannered technocrat, Singh became one of India’s longest-serving prime ministers for 10 years and leader of the Congress Party in the Parliament's Upper House, earning a reputation as a man of great personal integrity. He was chosen to fill the role in 2004 by Sonia Gandhi, the widow of assassinated Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi . But his sterling image was tainted by allegations of corruption against his ministers. Singh was reelected in 2009, but his second term as prime minister was clouded by financial scandals and corruption charges over the organization of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. This led to the Congress Party’s crushing defeat in the 2014 national election by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Narendra Modi . Singh adopted a low profile after relinquishing the post of prime minister. Prime Minister Modi, who succeeded Singh in 2014, called him one of India’s “most distinguished leaders” who rose from humble origins and left “a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years.” “As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives,” Modi said in a post on the social platform X. He called Singh’s interventions in Parliament as a lawmaker “insightful” and said “his wisdom and humility were always visible.” Rahul Gandhi, from the same party as Singh and the opposition leader in the lower house of the Indian Parliament, said Singh’s “deep understanding of economics inspired the nation” and that he “led India with immense wisdom and integrity.” “I have lost a mentor and guide. Millions of us who admired him will remember him with the utmost pride,” Gandhi wrote on X. Born on Sept. 26, 1932, in a village in the Punjab province of undivided India, Singh’s brilliant academic career took him to Cambridge University in Britain, where he earned a degree in economics in 1957. He then got his doctorate in economics from Nuffield College at Oxford University in 1962. Singh taught at Panjab University and the prestigious Delhi School of Economics before joining the Indian government in 1971 as economic advisor in the Commerce Ministry. In 1982, he became chief economic adviser to the Finance Ministry. He also served as deputy chair of the Planning Commission and governor of the Reserve Bank of India. As finance minister, Singh in 1991 instituted reforms that opened up the economy and moved India away from a socialist-patterned economy and toward a capitalist model in the face of a huge balance of payments deficit, skirting a potential economic crisis. His accolades include the 1987 Padma Vibhushan Award, India’s second-highest civilian honor; the Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Award of the Indian Science Congress in 1995; and the Asia Money Award for Finance Minister of the Year in 1993 and 1994. Singh was a member of India’s Upper House of Parliament and was leader of the opposition from 1998 to 2004 before he was named prime minister. He was the first Sikh to hold the country’s top post and made a public apology in Parliament for the 1984 Sikh Massacre in which some 3,000 Sikhs were killed after then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by Sikh bodyguards. Under Singh, India adopted a Right to Information Act in 2005 to promote accountability and transparency from government officials and bureaucrats. He was also instrumental in implementing a welfare scheme that guaranteed at least 100 paid workdays for Indian rural citizens. The coalition government he headed for a decade brought together politicians and parties with differing ideologies that were rivals in the country’s various states. In a move hailed as one of his biggest achievements apart from economic reforms, Singh ended India’s nuclear isolation by signing a deal with the U.S. that gave India access to American nuclear technology. But the deal hit his government adversely, with Communist allies withdrawing support and criticism of the agreement growing within India in 2008 when it was finalized. Singh adopted a pragmatic foreign policy approach, pursuing a peace process with nuclear rival and neighbor Pakistan. But his efforts suffered a major setback after Pakistani militants carried out a massive gun and bomb attack in Mumbai in November 2008. He also tried to end the border dispute with China, brokering a deal to reopen the Nathu La pass into Tibet, which had been closed for more than 40 years. His 1965 book, “India’s Export Trends and Prospects for Self-Sustained Growth,” dealt with India’s inward-oriented trade policy. Singh is survived by his wife Gursharan Kaur and three daughters. Palantir stock is hot right now, but it would be a bad idea to chase it now, a Baird analyst said. ( ) has been soaring this year as the company emerged as a major player in artificial intelligence and in the defense market. But Baird analyst William Power counseled caution on the stock at this time. He initiated coverage at neutral with a $70 price target. "We are positive on the company's position, but are wary of chasing given strong year-to-date performance and valuation," Power said in a Wednesday client note. Palantir "has excelled at actually putting generative AI applications into production, which is where we expect most value to be extracted in the coming years." But Power pointed to risks with the stock. One is the fact that Palantir has outpaced the S&P 500 big time, "suggesting high expectations, though we also acknowledge the strong, accelerating operating momentum." The change in Washington also means uncertainty, although it could also benefit Palantir. "New administration risk?" Power wrote. "Any pause in contract awards could be a near-term risk, though ultimately we believe Palantir can provide a force multiplier for government efficiency." The cautious view comes at a time when Palantir remains a Wall Street favorite. PLTR stock has gained more than 325% year to date, making it the top performer in the S&P 500 this year. Palantir stock hit a record 80.91 Monday morning but reversed lower. That was a time when investors could have chosen to take some profits in the highflier. The AI stock fell to 68.09 intraday Wednesday before rebounding for a modest gain. Shares edged up 0.9% to 73.13 on Thursday afternoon. Palantir stock remains well above its 50-day and 21-day moving averages, even with the mini-pause this week. Palantir also has a perfect Relative Strength Rating of 99, according to .Liverpool head coach Arne Slot continued to play down the significance of their place at the top of the Premier League despite it being strengthened by their 3-1 win over Leicester. Chelsea’s surprise defeat by Fulham meant victory over the Foxes stretched their lead to seven points, with a match in hand, with the halfway point of the campaign fast approaching. But Slot is maintaining his level-headed approach despite the clamour growing around their chances of adding another title to the one won in 2020. The league table is something of course we are aware of but we always understand how many games there are to go.” Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy felt his side held their own until Salah scored in the 82nd minute. “I think we were in the contest for a result for a long time,” he said. “Three-one was the turning point in the sense the game was done there to get a result. “I think the 60th minute I remember a chanced for Daka to score the equaliser so we were in the game to get a surprising result. “We did well, we did what we could: a good start with the goal but if you speak of a turning point, 3-1 with Salah, the game was done.” Van Nistelrooy left goalkeeper Danny Ward out of the squad after he struggled in the defeat to Wolves and was jeered by his own fans. “The change in goal was one to make and the conversation with Wardy was impressive, the way he was thinking of the team and the club,” added the Dutchman. “I insisted on a conversation and of course it is a private conversation but what I want to share is the person and the professional he is. “I was impressed with that and his willingness for the team and the club to do well. “Really tough what happened for him. We are professionals but human beings as well, when frustration is being directed towards one person that is difficult.” We do not moderate comments, but we expect readers to adhere to certain rules in the interests of open and accountable debate.Billionaire tapped to lead NASA not just about SpaceX during Daytona’s Embry-Riddle grad speech

Richardson missed practice on Thursday and Friday because of back and foot injuries. He was listed as questionable before he was downgraded to out on Saturday. Indianapolis (7-8) has a slim chance of making the playoffs. The Colts need to win out and get some help. Richardson's absence likely means Joe Flacco will start against New York. Flacco, a New Jersey native who turns 40 on Jan. 16, has passed for 1,167 yards and nine touchdowns in six games this season, including four starts. He also has thrown five interceptions. The 22-year-old Richardson was selected by Indianapolis with the No. 4 pick in the 2023 draft. He has passed for 1,814 yards and eight touchdowns with 12 interceptions this year. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl The Associated Press See a typo/mistake? Have a story/tip? Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) told HuffPost it’s a “big deal” that Trump’s pick to lead the Labor Department, outgoing GOP Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (Oregon), endorsed the pro-union legislation known as the Protecting the Right to Organize Act. Only two other House Republicans signed on to the bill in this Congress. Warren takes that as a hopeful sign for the nominee’s approach to workplace issues. “If Chavez-DeRemer commits as labor secretary to strengthen labor unions and promote worker power, she’s a strong candidate for the job,” she said in a statement. But Warren went on to say that the nomination — which could draw opposition from members of Trump’s own party — is an early test for both the incoming president and the Senate GOP. “Will Trump stand strong with workers or bow down to his corporate donors and the Republican establishment’s opposition?” she said. “And if Republican Senators block Trump’s labor nominee for standing with unions, it will show that the party’s support for workers is all talk.” “Will Trump stand strong with workers or bow down to his corporate donors and the Republican establishment’s opposition?” A moderate one-term Republican who just lost her House reelection bid last month, Chavez-DeRemer is one of the outliers in Trump’s would-be Cabinet of loyalists, TV personalities and partisan bomb-throwers. She reportedly had the backing of Teamsters President Sean O’Brien, who cultivated a relationship with Trump during his latest White House run. Her PRO Act support is probably the most unorthodox line on Chavez-DeRemer’s resume. A sweeping plan to overhaul the nation’s labor law, the legislation would make it easier to form unions and secure collective bargaining agreements, increase penalties for illegal union-busting by employers and roll back state “right-to-work” laws, among many other measures. She also backed a bill to expand union rights to more public-sector workers — a proposal that had only seven other Republican backers in the House. The Chavez-DeRemer nomination plays into the GOP’s attempted rebranding as a pro-labor party, but her support for union-friendly legislation might be too much for some Republican senators to swallow. The most high-profile faces of that image makeover — Vice President-elect Sen. J.D. Vance (Ohio) and Sen. Josh Hawley (Mo.) — were willing to walk a strike picket line but not co-sponsor the PRO Act, which has never passed the Senate. “I have real questions about her vote for the PRO Act,” Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) told HuffPost on Monday. “I don’t know her. I don’t believe we’ve ever met, but if she voted to repeal [state right-to-work laws], there’s some questions that need to be answered.” Some anti-union groups that typically align with Republicans have denounced Chavez-DeRemer as a candidate for the labor role, with the National Right to Work Committee saying she should “have no place in the Trump administration.” Republicans will hold a slim 53-47 majority in the incoming Senate. If they face enough pressure from business groups to oppose her nomination, there’s a scenario in which Democratic backing could put Chavez-DeRemer over the top for confirmation — if Trump sticks by her. Labor secretaries can’t enact any major reforms without a green light from the White House. To truly mark a new direction for the GOP, Trump would have to break with all the anti-union and deregulatory workplace policies of his first term. Arthur Delaney contributed reporting. BERLIN (XINHUA) – The China-Europe freight train service has become a cornerstone of economic ties between China and the European Union (EU), providing essential support for industries requiring time-sensitive and reliable logistics, Chairman of the International Rail Freight Business Association Olaf Krueger told Xinhua in an interview. The imminent arrival of the 100,000th China-Europe Freight Train in Duisburg, Germany, marks a historic milestone for this rail link, which has emerged as a vital economic bridge. Krueger emphasised its pivotal role in enhancing trade and supply chain efficiency. “Rail transport has made a significant contribution to the strong economic growth between China and the countries of the EU. This transport option on the Silk Road has developed expansively and has been used in particular for time-critical transport,” he noted. Krueger praised railway workers for reducing transit times and improving transfer efficiency at gauge junctions. Recalling the challenges they faced, he highlighted how Chinese workers managed to transfer cargo at the China-Kazakhstan border during harsh winters with two metres of snow. “These photos have gone around the world, and the railwaymen involved must still be thanked today for this great effort,” he said. PHOTO: XINHUA Under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the railway has become a dependable logistics solution for goods requiring prompt delivery, seeing significant growth as an option for time-sensitive shipments. “European companies have increasingly relied on the railway to optimise supply chains. Its stability and reliability ensure ‘just-in-time’ deliveries, which are essential for many industries,” Krueger said. He highlighted how importers of Chinese goods benefit from shorter transit times and faster market responses. European companies with production facilities in China have also come to depend on the rail network for material transport between factories. “Rail’s reliability prevents production delays and maintains supply chain continuity,” he explained. The retail sector is another key beneficiary, with many discount chains using the China-Europe Railway Express to ship non-food promotional items. “Retailers are increasingly demanding ‘just-in-time’ services, and the Railway Express meets these needs effectively,” Krueger said. As demand for rail services continues to grow, particularly from central and western China, Krueger stressed the importance of expanding railway infrastructure. “This is particularly necessary in difficult political and economic situations, as alternative transport solutions are required in the event of delivery restrictions in both maritime transport and air freight,” he said. Krueger proposed optimising the European rail network and logistics hubs to improve efficiency. Italy, he noted, is a key consumer market with increasing demand for both imports and exports. “More logistics terminals in Italy would boost container utilisation rates on both legs of the journey,” he suggested. He also advocated for improved rail links to ports such as Piraeus in Greece. “Expanding rail connections in Southern and Eastern Europe will enhance efficiency and foster economic integration,” he added. “Efficient transport connections are a prerequisite for the continuation and deepening of diplomatic relations between China and the EU,” Krueger said.

An illegal alien, reportedly released into the United States by President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS), is accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that killed 37-year-old Jimmy Chang, a well-known realtor in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. Christian Fernando Irias-Ruiz, a 20-year-old Honduran national, has been arrested and charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, drunk driving, reckless driving, speeding, and possession of alcohol by someone under 21 years old. According to police, the crash occurred just days before Christmas when Irias-Ruiz allegedly drove drunk, ran a red light, and t-boned Jimmy Chang’s vehicle — killing him. A third vehicle was involved in the crash, which left some passengers injured. “It’s devastating for all the family right now, still can’t process that he’s gone,” Jason Chang, Jimmy’s brother, told WSB-TV 2 Atlanta. “He impacted a lot of lives.” A report from Fox News Digital reveals that Irias-Ruiz is an illegal alien from Honduras and was first apprehended crossing the southern border in June 2021. DHS officials, though, released Irias-Ruiz into the United States interior through Biden’s expansive Catch and Release network. Chang, whose family has set up a GoFundMe page, was a realtor in the area and president of the Atlanta chapter of the Asian Real Estate Association of America. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has placed a detainer on Irias-Ruiz so that if he is released from DeKalb County Jail at any time, he will be turned over to agents for arrest and deportation. (AP) — This isn’t a week when coach Todd Bowles feels he needs to find the right words to ensure his Tampa Bay Buccaneers are motivated to face the last-place Carolina Panthers. The Bucs (8-7) have won eight of the last nine meetings between the NFC South rivals, including the past three with Baker Mayfield at quarterback. It hasn’t exactly been smoothly sailing against the Panthers (4-11), though, for the three-time defending division champions. And, with at least a share of first place on the line Sunday, Bowles and his players say they are focused solely on rebounding from last week’s disappointing loss to the Dallas Cowboys. “We know it’s going to be a tough ballgame. It went overtime last time. They’re coached very well; they play very hard,” Bowles said, referencing Tampa Bay’s 26-23 win at Carolina on Dec. 1. “We know what’s at stake for us. It doesn’t need to be talked about. Everybody understands that,” Bowles added. “We’ve got to clean up our own mistakes, and we’ve got to play an error-free football game.” The Bucs are tied with Atlanta for the best record in the NFC South, however the Falcons (8-7) hold the tiebreaker after sweeping the season series between the teams. To claim a fourth straight division title, Tampa Bay needs to win remaining home games against the Panthers and New Orleans Saints while Atlanta loses at least once in the last two weeks of the regular season. If the Falcons hold on to win the South, the Bucs can earn a wild-card playoff berth if they win out and the Washington Commanders lose twice. Mayfield, who has resurrected his career since being released by Carolina two years ago, summed up the attitude in a resilient locker room. The Bucs have won four of five games following a four-game losing streak threatened their playoff hopes. “I keep saying it, this team has the mental makeup of a great team. We just have to continue to fight and find ways to win,” the quarterback said. “If we don’t take of business, we won’t be in the playoffs.” Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard cost his team the game four weeks ago against Tampa Bay when he fumbled on the second possession of overtime just after Carolina had reached field goal range. Mayfield responded by leading the Bucs back down the field for the winning field goal. The loss was devastating for Hubbard at the time, but he promised himself when the opportunity arose again he’d make the most of it. He did that this past Sunday, when he carried twice for 49 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown run in which he broke two tackles, in overtime to lift the Panthers to a 36-30 win over Arizona, knocking the Cardinals out of the playoff hunt. “I’d let it go, but it’s definitely been in the back of my head a little bit,” Hubbard said. “Like I said, when the next opportunity came, I told myself I’m going to get it back for them. To be able to have them trust me in that opportunity again, and to have it in that way is a blessing from God.” Bryce Young has shown solid progress in his decision making, particularly when the pocket begins to break down. Last week, the second-year QB ran for a career-best 68 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown. Young was benched after two games this season, but since returning to the lineup has played better, restoring some faith that perhaps the No. 1 overall pick in 2023 can be the team’s quarterback of the future. “Just time in the system and time as a team for us to come together,” Young said of why he has improved. “For me, being able to get reps, and get time with everyone. It’s just all of us being able to feed off of each other, and it’s been able to allow us to turn in the right direction.” The Panthers have been abysmal against the run, allowing nearly 200 yards per game on the ground over the last seven games. In the last meeting with Tampa Bay, Bucky Irving ran for a career-high 152 yards and a touchdown, so Carolina’s defense has a good idea of what's coming Sunday. Mayfield has beaten Carolina three times since joining the Bucs in 2023. All of the meetings have been close, though, with the Panthers losing twice by three points and Tampa Bay settling for three field goals in a 9-0 regular season-ending victory that clinched its third straight NFC South championship last January. “We know them well. They know us well,” Mayfield said. AP Sports Writer Steve Reed in Charlotte, North Carolina, contributed to this report. NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

The Chicago Cubs acquired All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker in a trade with the Houston Astros on Friday. In return, the Astros received infielder Isaac Paredes, right-handed pitcher Hayden Wesneski and third base prospect Cam Smith. Tucker, 27, batted .289 with 23 home runs and 49 RBIs in 78 games last season. An All-Star in each of the past three seasons, Tucker missed three-plus months this year with a small fracture in his right shin from his own foul ball in early June. He is expected to make around $16 million in arbitration for 2025 and is a free agent at the end of the season. In 633 career games for Houston since making his debut in 2018, Tucker is a career .274 hitter with 125 homers, 135 doubles and 417 RBIs. Smith, 21, is the No. 7 prospect in the Cubs' organization according to MLB Pipeline. Drafted 14th overall in the first round earlier this year, Smith is primarily a third baseman but has played left field. Paredes, 25, was used at three infield positions last season and hit 31 home runs with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2023 before a combined total of 19 homers last season split between the Rays and Cubs. Chicago acquired Paredes for three players in July. Paredes won't be a free agent until 2028. He originally signed with the Cubs for $500,000 out of Mexico in 2015. --Field Level MediaMORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — CJ Donaldson had two short rushing touchdowns and West Virginia became bowl eligible with a 31-21 victory over UCF on Saturday. Garrett Greene threw a TD pass in his final home game and Jahiem White added a short rushing score for the Mountaineers (6-5, 5-3 Big 12). West Virginia avoided losing for the fifth time at home, which hasn’t happened since 1990. Whether the win was enough for embattled coach Neal Brown to keep his job remains to be seen. UCF (4-7, 2-6) is assured of its second straight losing season under coach Gus Malzahn. Donaldson, averaging 53 rushing yards per game, finished with 96 yards. He came out determined with 56 yards on his first four carries, including a 1-yard run on West Virginia's opening series. West Virginia cornerback Dontez Fagan then recovered a fumble by UCF quarterback Dylan Rizk, and Donaldson ran for 28 more yards on the next series that was capped by White’s 3-yard TD run. Greene struggled in the passing game for most of the first half, then went 4 of 6 for 65 yards just before halftime, hitting Rodney Gallagher with a 12-yard TD toss for a 21-7 lead. Rizk went 11 of 21 for 172 yards, including a 45-yard scoring strike to Kobe Hudson. RJ Harvey, the Big 12’s leading rusher, ran for 130 yards and two scores, including a 9-yard TD run that brought UCF within 31-21 with 5:20 left. But the ensuing onside kick didn't go the required 10 yards. Greene then converted a pair of fourth-down passes and West Virginia ran out the clock. Greene finished 13 of 21 for 118 yards. The takeaway UCF: The Knights outgained West Virginia 348 yards to 318 but now have lost seven of eight games following a 3-0 start. West Virginia: The Mountaineers won despite being stuck in many third-and-long situations on offense against a solid effort from UCF's defensive front. Up next UCF: Hosts Utah on Friday night. The world stands at the dawn of a “third nuclear age” in which Britain is threatened by multiple dilemmas, the head of the armed forces has warned. But alongside his stark warning of the threats facing Britain and its allies, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin said there would be only a “remote chance” Russia would directly attack or invade the UK if the two countries were at war. The Chief of the Defence Staff laid out the landscape of British defence in a wide-ranging speech, after a minister warned the Army would be wiped out in as little as six months if forced to fight a war on the scale of the Ukraine conflict. The admiral cast doubt on the possibility as he gave a speech at the Royal United Services Institute (Rusi) defence think tank in London. Moscow “knows the response will be overwhelming”, he added, but warned the nuclear deterrent needed to be “kept strong and strengthened”. Sir Tony added: “We are at the dawn of a third nuclear age, which is altogether more complex. It is defined by multiple and concurrent dilemmas, proliferating nuclear and disruptive technologies and the almost total absence of the security architectures that went before.” He listed the “wild threats of tactical nuclear use” by Russia, China building up its weapon stocks, Iran’s failure to co-operate with a nuclear deal, and North Korea’s “erratic behaviour” among the threats faced by the West. But Sir Tony said the UK’s nuclear arsenal is “the one part of our inventory of which Russia is most aware and has more impact on (President Vladimir) Putin than anything else”. Successive British governments had invested “substantial sums of money” in renewing nuclear submarines and warheads because of this, he added. The admiral described the deployment of thousands of North Korean soldiers on Ukraine’s border alongside Russian forces as the year’s “most extraordinary development”. He also signalled further deployments were possible, speaking of “tens of thousands more to follow as part of a new security pact with Russia”. Defence minister Alistair Carns earlier said a rate of casualties similar to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would lead to the army being “expended” within six to 12 months. In comments reported by Sky News, Mr Carns, a former Royal Marines colonel, said Russia was suffering losses of around 1,500 soldiers killed or injured a day. “In a war of scale – not a limited intervention, but one similar to Ukraine – our Army for example, on the current casualty rates, would be expended – as part of a broader multinational coalition – in six months to a year,” Mr Carns said in a speech at Rusi. He added: “That doesn’t mean we need a bigger Army, but it does mean you need to generate depth and mass rapidly in the event of a crisis.” Official figures show the Army had 109,245 personnel on October 1, including 25,814 volunteer reservists. Mr Carns, the minister for veterans and people, said the UK needed to “catch up with Nato allies” to place greater emphasis on the reserves. The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said Defence Secretary John Healey had previously spoken about “the state of the armed forces that were inherited from the previous government”. The spokesman said: “It’s why the Budget invested billions of pounds into defence, it’s why we’re undertaking a strategic defence review to ensure that we have the capabilities and the investment needed to defend this country.”Venezuela Prepares for Election to Select Local ‘Peace Judges’As China cracks down on bookstores at home, Chinese-language booksellers are flourishing overseas
The expanded Big Ten is poised to be a major player in this season's College Football Playoff. The 18-team conference had three of the top-four teams in the AP poll this week — No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 4 Penn State. A one-loss Indiana team is ranked 10th but is still very much a contender to make the playoff, given how many Southeastern Conference teams have three defeats or more. Indiana's rise has been perhaps the Big Ten's biggest story this season. Much of the spotlight was on newcomers Oregon, Southern California, UCLA and Washington, but aside from the top-ranked Ducks, that foursome has struggled to impress. Meanwhile, the Hoosiers won their first 10 games under new coach Curt Cignetti before losing at Ohio State last weekend. Oregon beat Ohio State 32-31 back in October, and if the Buckeyes beat rival Michigan this weekend, they'll earn a rematch with the Ducks for the Big Ten title. People are also reading... And it's entirely possible another matchup between those two teams awaits in the CFP. Star power Dillon Gabriel has quarterbacked Oregon to an unbeaten record, throwing for 3,066 yards and 22 touchdowns in 11 games. But don't overlook Iowa's Kaleb Johnson and his 21 rushing TDs, and quarterback Kurtis Rourke has been a big part of Indiana's improvement. Penn State's Abdul Carter has eight sacks and two forced fumbles and could be one of the top edge rushers drafted this year. Going bowling Oregon (11-0, 8-0), Ohio State (10-1, 7-1), Penn State (10-1, 7-1), Indiana (10-1, 7-1), Illinois (8-3, 5-3), Iowa (7-4, 5-3), Michigan (6-5, 4-4), Minnesota (6-5, 4-4), Washington (6-5, 4-4), Southern California (6-5, 4-5), Nebraska (6-5, 3-5) and Rutgers (6-5, 3-5) have already reached the six-win mark for bowl eligibility. Michigan State (5-6, 3-5) and Wisconsin (5-6, 3-5) can join them. Hot seats There may not be many firings in general at the top level of college football. The prospect of sharing revenue with athletes in the future might lead schools to be more judicious about shedding one coach and hiring a new one. Who should be most worried in the Big Ten? Well, Lincoln Riley is struggling to stay above .500 in his third season at USC. Purdue is 1-10, but coach Ryan Walters is only in his second season. Maryland's Mike Locksley has been there six years and his Terrapins are 4-7, but this was his first real step backward after guiding the team to three straight bowl wins. Cignetti has shown it is possible for a coaching change to push a previously moribund program to some impressive heights in a short amount of time — but the improvement has been more incremental at Michigan State following Jonathan Smith's arrival. Sherrone Moore wasn't a completely unknown commodity at Michigan after he won some massive games in place of a suspended Jim Harbaugh last year. But in his first season completely at the helm, the Wolverines have declined significantly following their national title a season ago. Youth movement The Big Ten is home to one of the most dynamic freshmen in the country in Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith. He has 52 catches for 899 yards and nine touchdowns. Highly touted quarterback Dylan Raiola has teamed up with fellow freshman Jacory Barney (49 catches) to lead Nebraska to bowl eligibility. Recruiting watch Ohio State is on track to land the Big Ten's top class, according to 247 Sports, but the big news recently was quarterback Bryce Underwood flipping from LSU to Michigan. If the Wolverines do in fact keep Underwood in his home state, that would be a big development for Moore. Be the first to know Get local news delivered to your inbox!

Aston Villa had a stoppage-time goal disallowed as they drew 0-0 with Juventus in the Champions League . Morgan Rogers looked to have given Unai Emery’s side another famous win when he slammed a loose ball home at the death, but referee Jesus Gil Manzano ruled Diego Carlos to have fouled Juve goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio and the goal was chalked off. It was a disappointment for Villa, who remain unbeaten at home in their debut Champions League campaign and are still in contention to qualify automatically for the last 16. Emiliano Martinez had earlier displayed why he was named the best goalkeeper in the world as his wonder save kept his side level in the second half. The Argentina international paraded his two Yashin Trophies on the pitch before kick-off at Villa Park and then showed why he won back-to-back FIFA awards when he denied Francisco Conceicao. Before Rogers’ moment of drama in the fourth minute of added time, the closest Villa came to scoring was in the first half when Lucas Digne’s free-kick hit the crossbar. But a draw was a fair result which leaves Villa out of the top eight on goal difference and Juventus down in 19th. Before the game Emery called Juventus one of the “best teams in the world, historically and now”, but this was an Italian side down to the bare bones. Only 14 outfield players made the trip from Turin, with striker Dusan Vlahovic among those who stayed behind. The opening 30 minutes were forgettable before the game opened up. Ollie Watkins, still chasing his first Champions League goal, had Villa’s first presentable chance as he lashed an effort straight at Di Gregorio. Matty Cash then had a vicious effort from the resulting corner which was blocked by Federico Gatti and started a counter-attack which ended in Juventus striker Timothy Weah. Villa came closest to breaking the deadlock at the end of the first half when Digne’s 20-yard free-kick clipped the top of the crossbar and went over. Martinez then produced his brilliant save just after the hour. A corner made its way through to the far post where Conceicao was primed to head in at the far post, but Martinez sprawled himself across goal to scoop the ball away. Replays showed most of the ball went over the line, but the Argentinian got there with millimetres to spare. At the other end another fine goal-line block denied John McGinn as Manuel Locatelli got his foot in the way with Di Gregorio beaten. The game looked to be petering out until a last-gasp free-kick saw Rogers slam home, but whistle-happy official Gil Manzano halted the celebrations by ruling the goal out.Stocks Fall, Yen Eyes Best Day In 2 Months, Bitcoin Rebounds Above $96,000: What's Driving Markets Wednesday?
Lottery officials warn $1 million ticket will expire in days if winner does not come forward – and it was bought at WawaSouthampton troll fierce rivals Portsmouth as game called off due to power failureRaw milk, hailed by some as a natural and nutritious alternative to pasteurized dairy, may come with hidden dangers, according to a new Stanford University study. The research, published December 12 in Environmental Science & Technology Letters reveals that influenza or flu virus can remain infectious in refrigerated raw milk for up to five days. The findings come at a time when outbreaks of bird flu in dairy cattle have raised concerns about the potential for a new pandemic. "This work highlights the potential risk of avian influenza transmission through consumption of raw milk and the importance of milk pasteurization," said study senior author Alexandria Boehm, the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Professor of Environmental Studies in the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability and the Stanford School of Engineering. More than 14 million Americans consume raw milk annually . Unlike pasteurized milk, raw milk is not heated to kill potentially harmful pathogens. Proponents of raw milk claim that it leaves more beneficial nutrients, enzymes, and probiotics than in pasteurized milk, and can boost immune and gastrointestinal health. The Food and Drug Administration has tied raw milk to over 200 outbreaks of illnesses, and—together with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention —warns that germs, such E. coli and Salmonella, in raw milk present "serious" health risks, especially for children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems. The science behind the risk The researchers explored the persistence of a strain of human influenza virus in raw cow's milk at typical refrigeration temperatures. The flu virus , called H1N1 PR8, survived and remained infectious in the milk for up to five days. "The persistence of infectious influenza virus in raw milk for days raises concerns about potential transmission pathways," said study co-lead author Mengyang Zhang, a postdoctoral scholar in civil and environmental engineering. "The virus could contaminate surfaces and other environmental materials within dairy facilities, posing risks to animals and humans." Additionally, the researchers found that flu virus RNA—molecules that carry genetic information but are not considered a health risk—remained detectable in the raw milk for at least 57 days. By comparison, pasteurization completely destroyed infectious influenza in the milk and reduced the amount of viral RNA by almost 90%, but didn't eliminate the RNA entirely. Although exposure to influenza virus RNA does not pose a health risk, RNA-based testing methods are often used to conduct environmental surveillance of pathogens like influenza. "The prolonged persistence of viral RNA in both raw and pasteurized milk has implications for food safety assessments and environmental surveillance, particularly because many of the techniques used in environmental surveillance detect RNA," said study co-lead author Alessandro Zulli, a postdoctoral scholar in civil and environmental engineering . The research grew out of an earlier project focused on human norovirus and the subfamily of viruses responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic. Why it matters now In the U.S. alone, flu viruses infect more than 40 million people and kill more than 50,000 every year. These types of viruses can spread from animals to humans, as in the case of swine flu, which led to as many as 1.4 billion human infections globally in 2009-2010. Although bird flu has not proven as dangerous to people yet, it could mutate to become so. Recent detection of bird flu in cattle has raised questions about its potential transmission through milk and other dairy products. The study's findings underscore the importance of improving monitoring systems, particularly as bird flu continues to spread among livestock, according to the study's authors. The study complements earlier research involving several of the same researchers that pioneered the use of wastewater for detection of avian influenza. That analysis revealed commercial and industrial dairy waste as primary sources. By analyzing wastewater, public health officials could detect virus activity in nearby cattle populations. "We never thought that wastewater could be used to detect and respond to zoonotic pathogens circulating in the community," Boehm said. "It has been amazing to watch our work on detection in wastewater scaled across the United States and the world." With an important regular-season finale ending a short week, Mississippi has watched its dreams shift from national success to perhaps something it certainly did not want on Thanksgiving weekend: An Egg Bowl that holds only regional significance and statewide bragging rights. After their third and disappointing defeat, the No. 14 Rebels will play Friday afternoon in their annual Egg Bowl matchup against rival Mississippi State in the intrastate series in Oxford, Miss. It will not be easy putting aside the catastrophic 24-17 loss at Florida last Saturday, a soul-crushing setback that all but ended any College Football Playoff aspirations for the most talented Rebels team assembled in a long time. Coach Lane Kiffin's team slid five spots to 14th in the latest CFP rankings. The offseason outlook was rosy when Ole Miss (8-3, 4-3 SEC) shelled out big NIL money and added the top portal class to fill a roster that won 11 games in 2023. But the Rebels repeatedly shot themselves in the foot Saturday against the Gators. Ole Miss' high-powered offense turned the ball over three times, went 3 of 14 on third down, failed on two fourth-down attempts, dropped five passes and missed a field goal. Before the game, ABC's broadcast noted that the Rebels had an 84 percent chance to make the CFP. Following the loss, that number dwindled to four percent. The only way the Oxford school gets in is if there is the repeated chaos of Week 13, one that talk show host Paul Finebaum called "the most SEC carnage" he had ever seen. The Egg Bowl has been played on Thanksgiving Day 23 times, including 2017 to last season, but Kiffin feels the afternoon start on Friday is an advantage. "It helps them to know that playoffs are still alive and they get kind of the first shot to show everybody on a national stage," Kiffin said Monday, "as opposed to a Saturday game where these people that make the decisions don't necessarily see all the games because so many are going on." For the second time this month, Mississippi State coach Jeff Lebby will lead his last-place Bulldogs (2-9, 0-7) against a former boss. The 40-year-old head coach faced Tennessee and coach Josh Heupel, who had Lebby on his staff at UCF in 2018 and 2019, in a 33-14 loss on Nov. 9. Now he will face Kiffin, whom he was paired with in 2020 and 2021 in their first two seasons at Ole Miss when the school led the SEC in total offense. A frequent social media user who enjoys trolling others, Kiffin took a jab at Lebby and Mississippi State when the first-year coach was hired. "We've traded texts throughout the season and had communication," Lebby said Monday. "But no, not this week. He'll continue to find ways to have fun on social. That's who he's always been and who he'll always be." Ole Miss owns a 65-46-6 series advantage and has claimed five of the past seven matches, including a 35-3 "Egg Brawl" victory by the Bulldogs in 2018 that was later vacated. Another loss to the Rebels would give MSU its first winless SEC season since 2002. --Field Level Media
